Tuned S6 Engine, which rods?

Post by tuscan » Tue Jan 27, 2015 4:19 pm

I am building a fast road/ occasional track day engine at the moment, I have parts from 3 engines here and have 3 sets of rods. They are marked 206E which are in the Mk2 Ford engine I am rebuilding, I have a set of 204E rods in another damaged engine and a set of 213E rods from a Mk3 engine, at first glance they all look the same, is there any difference? I had thought the Mk3 rods were meant to be stronger I can`t see any obvious difference. Also were 204E rods from the 4 cylinder Ford, a bit surprised to see them in a 6 cylinder engine.............

I thought the 4 and 6 cylinder engines of the same ilk (1703 > 2553) are literally the same just 1.5 times as many moving bits (valves, springs, pistons, rods etc)?

Never try and argue with an idiot. They drag you down to their level, then beat you based on experience.

My guru said although they look the same don't use 204/6 Mk2 ones as 211/13 Mk 3 ones are stronger and use bigger bolts also as a consequence they use different shells. All OK in the Mk 2 block.
Also for performance use you should be strapping/bridging the centre two main bearings. I had this done in my Sabre Six engine.

Are there any external features between the 206E and 213E engines that will enable me to know what engine is in 660 XYB? Are there any clues in the engine number series?
