Hi Emile,
I can add you to the list, no problem.
I'm waiting to hear more from the guy that's making them. Hopefully it'll be soon.

ENDED - Coupe headlamp covers - an update

Sorry for the delay, I'm very aware it's been a long wait. I'm waiting for final confirmation but do know that 7 sets have been made and should be available in the next week. I'll ring my contact this evening for an update. The perils of being the middle-man!

It seems they are acrylic rather than polycarbonate as the shape was difficult to form in the latter, hence the failed first attempt. Apparently, polycarbonate isn't ideal for headlight covers (as opposed to complete headlight units where impact resistance is more critical) as it yellows with age as well as being less transparent than acrylic. In addition, acrylic can be easily polished if it gets scratched whereas polycarbonate can't.

I haven't seen the covers yet so I have no pictures but I will post as soon as I have more information. I am told they'll be £100 a set, which is what they cost to produce.

I'll post an update, hopefully with pictures, as soon as I know more. :)

Coupe headlamp covers - an update

Post by David Tew » Thu May 16, 2019 5:46 pm

A more helpful update ..... hopefully.

I will be collecting the covers next Tuesday (21st May) and will post some pictures soon afterwards. I'll make sure I get full details of cost etc. so we can then get a final list together of interested parties.

My apologies for the delay, which was outside my control. Hopefully the covers will be with their new owners within a couple of weeks.

Coupe headlamp covers - they are here!

Post by David Tew » Tue May 21, 2019 8:52 pm

I collected the covers today and have taped one temporarily to my primered Coupe (I didn't remove the protective film). They should fit even better on a painted car.

You'll note that there are no fixing holes or attachments as everyone had a different view on how best to do this so they were left undrilled.

My own plan is to cut a small slot inside each side of the headlight aperture and fix a bracket inside the nose with a tab protruding into the light aperture to fix the cover with a small SS self-tapper. In addition, a very small SS pan-head self-tapper screwed into the top and bottom surface will act as a stop and prevent the covers twisting when in place. This way they'll be sturdy and there will be minimum visual fixing. I'm not sure if I've described that too clearly but you'll have your own fitting ideas, I'm sure.

I have been given 7 sets at £100 a set. As this is an RSSOC forum, I think it's only fair to give priority (and free postage) to RSSOC members so the list below reflects this in order of posting - apologies to non-members but your chance may come as you rise up the list. I'd be grateful for confirmation of interest - no problem if you've changed your mind. Once I have takers for the covers I'll arrange payment and distribution.

I'll reiterate that I'm just the middle-man in this process so have no financial interest but I do know that the price just covers the production cost. At the moment I don't know if there will be a second production run.
