The tight spot is the rear axle to chassis area but a 50mm pipe will fit

Looked at the problem myself but did not do it - I thought that a GTE rear box might fit - or something a similar size. The "boom" from my exhaust unfortunately is at its worst at 70mph

I had a pair of compact rear silencers on my blue car
Still got them in the garage

chassie fabrication

Hello .
I am still trying to fit a short length of 2" pipe thru the Chassie / suspension point.
Considering fabricating a convoluted section , then fixing it into position. then connecting a length to the rear of the car.

The gap from nut head to chassie is less than 2".

I am beginning to wonder if its been modified.

Than'ks Steve . if I am successful I will come calling ,as I need to calm it down as my sprinting days are over.

Regards
Steve

Can’t you go under chassis like a GTE?

I recall coupe racing’s exhaust in one guise had a foot or so of flexi pipe coming upto the rear silencers

Even with tension on the supports the pipe bounced off the chassie.

I think it may be plate the over the original hole and scallop out the body rail and run a straight 2" pipe.

or !!!

Mine ended up being a lot straighter but can’t really tell from the pictures

Might be my imagination but I seem to have a lot more space under my car - the exhaust passes through the chassis then under the axle and up in a straight line to the back. there seems to be plenty of room for another silencer - all be it a straight through one.

My apologies.

I have not made my issue clear.

Its not the area beyond the chassie / suspension support it is the issue of the gap between the rail and support.

With triple 42's and a 38mm i/d dia standard exhaust the performance was compromised .

The exhaust was modified to run in 50mm bore thru the silencer then out the side under the door.

Which was ok on track , but not now.

I am Trying various routes to avoid road bumps etc. but keeping it 50mm bore.

Sorry about the picture - is this the area of concern ? Where the lower trailing arm bolt makes the gap between the chassis and trailing arm box becomes narrow.

A bit of paint needed on my car after a bit of the surface rust removing - anyway got to be 1" plus either side of my exhaust. Mines a V6 engine by the way - the S6 is narrower at the back. Photo taken back to front of the car.
