I have my Coupe booked in with my local Classic Car shop for Mot and some work.
I have asked them to look at a gearbox leak, and sloppy linkages (I have the bush set from QRG)
In practical terms, what can be done with the box in situ. If it needs to come out ,how long?

Depends on what GB is fitted - the very early ones fitted to the S6 were as bad as the 5 and 6 box - the two rail box is best and comes off the bell housing so its easier to get out. Prop shaft removed - six bolts to undo and the GB mount to remove - gear stick electrics etc and out it comes - couple of hours depending if you have the car on a lift or on the ground.

Even easier if you disconnect the exhaust and radiator pipes, then tilt the engine backwards a few degrees. Carb & linkage also
