SS1 boot lid lock stuck

Post by db2018 » Wed Apr 24, 2019 11:26 pm

The boot lock on my SS1 has stopped operating in the shut position. The button moves in and out happily but the mechanism inside does not operate. Presumably the catch is gummed up but it happened suddenly - has anyone got any suggestions as to how to open the boot?

try putting the key in and operating/turning it to see if it moves the operating gubbins

Not overlooking the obvious. It isn't locked is it?
Locking it turns a half moon plunger 180 degrees so that it no longer contacts the latch operation lever. The button will still depress.

My boot popped open in a 30mph crash if that helps...

Use a fine pick/similar to slide open space for key then really good squoosh of WD40. If not spray key with WD40 then insert and try. If not rub graphite on sides of key and try. Thereafter curse and swear and pay a locksmith.

The last resort is the brutal flat blade screwdriver forced into aperture and turned with a wrench but this will certainly destroy the lock and if too brutal may crack the boot.

SS1 boot lid lock stuck

To all those who responded to my problem very many thanks. When in a jam, any suggestions are potentially helpful in trying to think round a problem.
What happened? Nothing would induce the catch in the lock to move. Solution: hole was cut in the floor of the boot big enough to get an arm in and the lock was unscrewed allowing the boot to be raised. Problem identified as two small pieces of hard resin - shape and appearance would suggest part of a seam sealant broken off but from where not clear - lodged in the boot catch. Blockage removed, oiled up and refitted and back to normal operation - apart from the new access hole in the boot bottom!
Again many thanks for attention given.

There’s generally a lot of surplus resin between the two skins of the bootlid (from the seams).

My SST would not lock at all, finally traced to a self tapping screw jammed in the mechanism.
Probably dropped off a screwdriver when the rear spoiler was fitted/re fitted.
