Hi, I think that I read that the Toyota MR 2 mk 1 boot spoiler fits the SS1. Can someone confirm it for me please. If so will I need to update the boot struts for stronger ones? Or am I better off looking for a spoiler from the ti, unless that’s like looking for rocking horse s**t!
Cheers
Yes the MR2 spoiler does fit. I personally think it blends well with the rising wedge line of the car as a whole - without it the boot tends to tail off a bit weakly at the back. Mine fitted straight on, but the feet may have been previously fettled by Craig, as it came off his racer.
The standard struts can cope, but only if they are fairly new - if you're still using the originals, then they probably won't hold it up.
The rubber Ti spoiler that was on before was a horrible thing - the water had got into it and corroded it's metal frame, causing it to split and leak bits of rust onto the bootlid!

here's mine:

IIRC he just bought 10 from the person who had them made (was it someone in Lincs?) and sold them on.

SS1 boot spoiler

Post by Joe. » Sat Aug 18, 2018 9:11 am

I have a sabre boot lip spoiler on loan from ReliantReviver which I'm supposed to be taking a mould from when I get time. The intention would be to make a few in addition to the one i want for my SS1. Sorry I can't give any idea on timescale though - Ive probably had it well over a year so far with no progress yet!

Just spoken to Terry Farmer (Leicester noggin sec) and he is remanufacturing another batch.

I’m not sure which one I want now! Too many choices although I like the look of the Sabre one a bit more than the Toyota one. I suppose it all comes down to price in the end.
Thanks everyone.

Mk1 Sabre one would be good on an SS1...

Is this the type @Joe. was referring to?

That's the one Ben. Far more suited to the SS1 styling in my view.

When Dave's ready and the mould is made, I'll have a dozen please!

Windscreen removal

Post by Clueless1 » Mon Aug 20, 2018 8:54 pm

I decided that it was time to remove the windscreen ready for removal of the body tub. I’m going to have the windscreen surround resprayed so the screen needs to come out to do a decent job. The problem being is how does it come out!! I pulled the seal, hoping to ease it from around the frame but it ‘just came off in my hand!’. I didn’t realise that the screen was bonded in. Or has some PO bodged it?
Cheers in advance.

Nope - they’re bonded in.

No need to remove screen for paint as the seal hides any poor masking :D
