Metal Bracket / u channel in nose section

Post by gtcse8 » Thu Aug 24, 2017 9:45 am

Harry I replied to you on the 15th this month.

I now have a small amount of "Blanks" and when I find out the specifications wanted I can then go ahead and make them.
I need to know the bumper brackets mounting requirements, this can be a stud, as OE, a plain hole for nut and bolt fixing OR an internally mounted nut so the 1/2" bolt can be screwed in from the front, this is the best option we all feel as the threads are not exposed to salt etc and should not seize solid or rust away.

Cheers Mark

Went over to see Mark the other day to pick up my nose section, top guy with some great knowledge and great workmanship! Despite running over a massive piece of stone that required my car to be jacked up it was a good day! haha

If Mark hasn't got any left, I've got one with captive nuts (M12, no studs) going spare from this batch: http://www.scimitarweb.co.uk/sgwrs/view ... 08#p440608

Scott I have about Three "Blanks" left with no specific fixtures welded on yet, so YES I can supply exactly what you want if you want to pop over.

Hi Mark. Are you still making these front nose sections? if do do you make them for the SE6a?

I need the both triangle shaped bottom parts(14) and the passenger side spare wheel tray support(12).

Thanks
Joe

Hi Joe

Yes I can remake them either in mild steel or preferably zintec as I still have a very large 8x4 sheet still in stock.
#12 is a bit complicated, but can still be done.
How quick do you want them?.
Regards Mark

Thanks for getting back to me.

I had another look at the triangle shaped parts today and I think i might be able to restore them with a bit of welding. its really only the bumper mounting bolt holes that are in a bad way. the rest of them are solid enough.

Item 12 which is certainly at the end of its useful life does seem quite complex. A bent U channel with another smaller U channel welded into it. captive nut at one end and Cylinder welded in at the turret end to stop the bolt crushing the U channel.

I had a quick measure and the main long bit comes in at 90x40mm. I was thinking I could try to make it out of rectangle hollow section. The nearest standard rectangle hollow section is 80mmx40mm so that could work. The widest part is at the chassis turret but I don't think it needs to be 90mm exactly.

Then welded to that is the wheel tray support bent part that needs 2 bends and 4 holes, 2 with captive nuts. I do have a welder that I need to start using so I might give it a go and see how it works out. I think my local hardware shop will sell a 2' piece so i wont have to buy the whole length.

what do you think ?
