When I first got my Rebel estate it was running 13" Rostyles & drums so you should have no problem there

I'm not 100% sure but think they may have been 4.5" wide MG items

While the engine is out its a good time to take the drain plug out of the block & using some stiff wire poke the water jacket clear. That rear cylinder gets really gunked up, just like the Essex.
windy wrote:Yes, thats the one. The alloy threads in the block strip easily, so tighten with caution & use some sealant.
Very important I second you do this. As Mark said be VERY careful putting it back in.. its very tempting to make sure its extra tight... I had to re tap mine with a larger thread as a previous owner had overtightened and bodged something in there.

Poor progress really due to lack of enthusiasm.

Last week, the outriggers were replaced as per

A bit of an improvement on the old ones

More paint has been removed

The engine is in as many bits as it needs to be and the head is at the machiners being skimmed, then after I collect it on Tuesday, it can start going back together

Looks as if you've done a lot of filling and flatting already.
It's easy after that :)

Josh, I've been culling my Reliant stuff and found some advertising and a road test for a Rebel, would you like it?

There's still an awful long way to go but as long as the paint looks shiny and doesn't fall off,I'll be happy :)

Yes please Brian, I'll gladly have any tat you find :D

In other news, I collected these at the weekend from Mark. Should help lift the car safety and performance wise

Re: Oaksey's Rebel - For Sale?

Post by Oaksey » Wed Mar 23, 2016 7:46 pm

The rebel is half heartedly for sale. It's looking less likely that I'll actually drive it when it's done and whenever I spent time on it, I feel I should be doing the Coupé.

So if anyone fancies a Rebel estate, there's one here, either as is, or with an MOT. Quick run down:

4 new outriggers
Very rare sliding rear windows. Frames are in good condition
Partially stripped for paint - bonnet and boot are in paint
850 engine - head skimmed, chemically cleaned, valve lapped in etc. New seals and gaskets throughout
Front suspension refurbished with new bushes, wheel bearings, ball joints, trunnions and 1 new upright and stub axle (other one was in perfect condition)
Steering box seals replaced
Interior isn't too bad. Good dash, seats and door cards. No carpet and the headlining is okayish
A reasonable amount of spares comes with it including a lot of new bits that I haven't fitted yet

What it'll need for MOT:
Rear brakes doing (new cylinders, shoes and springs included)
All lights, horn wipers etc although I tested them when I first got it and most the lights actually still worked
A set of tyres probably
Re assembling, like the master cylinders, passenger seat, seat belts, engine and box, bonnet and boot etc

Offers of around £1450, which is what it owes me

I'm not expecting to have a flooded inbox so I'll keep plugging away at it until it's eventually done.
