Scooter Ski... The non-wheeled Reliant!

Post by grifterkid » Fri Apr 14, 2017 1:37 pm

Hello one and all.

I am keen to find out more about the Reliant constructed Scooter Ski...

I think it was produced from the mid-1960's to the mid-1970's but cannot be too sure on that!

It seems like it was a very popular craft if this article from 'Reliant Review' is anything to go by...

I would love to know more about it and I would dearly love to get my hands on one. As so many were produced there must surely be some survivors lurking around out there?!

If you know anything about these or know of one that I could nab give us a shout!

Onwards and upwards...

Coincidentally I was reading about this product last night, in Elvis Payne's excellent book (only £18 or so.. go on, you know you want to)

Anyway, the book contains this brief section on the Scooter Ski:

I've finished reading Elvis Payne's book, and now started on Nick Wotherspoon's, "Lawrie Bond - Microcar Man", and to my surprise I find the Scooter Ski mentioned again on pp239-240, together with some photos I hadn't seen before. There is also mention of Bond's earlier version, the Power Ski, but no other details except the fact that Bond had this earlier product.

I think (like the Bug) Reliant just badged it as a Bond?

Apparently Bond (or Sharp's) sold the Power Ski under a franchise agreement and the scooter ski was initially produced in Preston after the Reliant buy-out http://www.bondownersclub.co.uk/others.html
