radiator swap

Post by Firstcall » Tue Jul 23, 2019 2:09 am

hi
has anyone else changed the radiator for a more modern one as im still using the old rather thick cored radiator.i have changed the fan for a modern one and more reliable control switch but i would like to swap out the radiator. Now on eBay the price for a new modern one is around the £399 mark but if you cross reference the part number you get one that fits an early mondeo is this correct
many thanks

The traders do a shiny new aluminium one for about half that?

Which model of car are you talking about?

Edit - earlier post mentioned an SE6a, so no - it’s not a Mondeo radiator.

Expensive when compared to the Club Traders - but it does include a Spal fan and has a screw in temp sender.

I am always puzzled by the price of radiators, especially alloy ones.
I bought a new alloy radiator for the Calibra and it cost 31 euros.
Heavy duty ones for diesels are 38 euros.
And really heavy duty for turbos are 46 euros.
They have crappy plastic end tanks and only last a few years but at the price (and especially as they are very easy to change on a Calbra 8) ) who cares.
I haven't a GTE or GTC to compare but for info the Calibra radiator dimensions are
617 x 376 x 23 or 34

All of my small sports have VW alloy/plastic rads (at around £40 delivered) but the GTE/GTC market is a minuscule fraction of those, so they’re proportionally more expensive to produce by hand as tooling up for automated production just isn’t viable.

I don’t think so - QRG will well you a stainless one for about the same money, secondhand stainless are regularly advertised for sub £200.
