6a bonnet bolt nuts needed

Post by scimitargtc » Mon Jul 01, 2019 9:31 pm

Ok, so she runs and not at all badly but have, despite bagging almost all fixings as they came off I initially mislaid 2 of the nyloc nuts that the bonnet is bolted on with to the hinges. Only took the bonnet off (as it makes it so much easier). Found 1 as I backed her out of the garage but can’t find the remaining nut. Nothing in my tub of bits fit and neither the local hardware shop can match it so Q ladies and gentlemen is what’s the thread/pitch and ‘useful’ suggestions as to source of supply .. I’m so pleased to be nearly there despite me saying to swmbo it only needed the replacement inlet manifold fitting and a couple of hours work, that was I believe 5 months ago and a new electronic dizzie, leads, plugs, lightweight starter motor, alloy rad and electric fan, electric fuel pump and regulator , alternator , associated belts, lcd volt and temperature gauges, electric radio aerial, stainless hatch handle (thanks Bill) , mech fuel pump blanking plate, later she’s alive :D c/boro tickets were ordered the day slice arrived last month so She Will be there unless of course I decide to sell her after 22 years (all dependent on how easy I find it getting in and out [ had a mega brain haemorrhage aka a stroke in April 2016 and sold my Mgtf as I couldn’t get in or out without crawling and rolling- not dignified I assure you] on a daily basis.

They weren’t nyloc originally, just bog standard nuts with a flat and spring washer each - probably 5/16” UNF

Yes bog standard 5/16" UNF BZP with spring and flat washers. Plenty of hardware suppliers around, you can probably find some locally after a quick web search. We have three in (long) walking distance for example.

If you get stuck, I can send you a set.

Youngest got me 4 nylocs, 4 flat washers 4 spring washers that all fit for the princely sum of £1. Riley’s on canal road Selby used to be Bapps fasteners (dunno if there was some aggro with a Sale or something but wifey went ages ago with a list I’d made headed up
Bapps, when she handed over the last the guy scribbled out the word and said “we’re Riley’s” not Bapps.. anyway that’s sorted so replacing brake fluid tomorrow and then off to tax her.

No need for spring washers with Nylocs, only plain nuts.
