You could machine the collets to fit 2.25" springs - that's what I did with my Spax after finding the 2.5" springs were loose

Me too - machined the AVO collets down from 2.5" in order to fit the Spax 300 lb springs. Nice and snug now.

That is a good idea. would save a bit of waiting. but good news Spax have gotten back to me and are processing the order for 2 x 2.5" top collets to match the lower ones and the springs that are on the way :)

Just wondering what is good about Spax (other than if you have them already)

Yes Dennis, you guessed correctly - I had a pair of Spax springs just waiting to be used.
Here's some background - not relevant, but perhaps interesting anyway; I also have AVO springs but these are lighter (275 lbs) and when I suggested using these on the back of the Sabre Six, with its longitudinal watts linkages and torsion control using the 7HA back axle, both Tony Richardson and the late Geoff Cooper threw up their hands in horror - to avoid the diff falling apart the rear end needs to be as rigid as you can stand!!
