I have been trying to track down a host of problems with the interior lights, radio, door switches, etc. Judging by the state of this relay, I would say I have found the main source, but I don't know what the yellow box is. Could that be the delay timer?

Check what colours the wires are connected to it and look at the circuit diagram for them - is there not a part number on it

I think it's a Ford relay 13C718. Interior light delay.

I can see 13C718, thanks for that David. This car was rewired completely a few years ago, so nothing corresponds to the Reliant wiring diagrams. Whoever did it obviously knew what he was doing, and added relays in all sorts of places where they would not have been originally. This cluster is behind the glove compartment, and there are three more behind them; then flashers and more relays behind the rev-counter panel which do not match Peter's diagrams and a whole bank of six relays controlling the headlights, cooling fan , horns etc, where no other SE6 has them, on the right of the engine bay. Anyhow, now I know what this yellow box is supposed to be I can diagnose a bit further. thanks a lot.
