Apologies for text format. In a rush to get to Noggin.
yes thanks will. just found without the crank arm connected the motor runs fine both fast and slow.
now looking into rack and wheel boxes. wheel box locking nut extremely over tightened during the very recent front end respray. so will slacken off and see what happens. but off to noggin night right now.

Will. The motor working fine is my original wiper motor. :D I've just released it from the crank arm. The new one is still in the box.

That's lucky you can return it .I'm surprised the fuse did not blow though .Make sure its the correct rating .It's rare for the wipers to just stop. I bet you are cursing the respray now.

Well the Scimitar bonnet was always a bee in my
bonnet from the day it was pointed out to me that it had a bulge on the passenger side (I never spotted it when I bought the car). So it's been a long time coming - 4 years.

Still no MOT date booked for 404😖
Update.
Wipers now working.
Found to be over tightening of one wiper wheel box nut by the enthusiastically helpful paint shop.
On the plus side I have an original Lucas wiper motor 16w etc. Returned the one I bought locally (from H Bowers a14w something) as my toothed gear wheel was too big a diameter to fit in the case housing.

Electric fuel pump working.
Found to be the totally wrong size of 'o' ring seals fitted in the brand new Hucco pump. Returned the Facet cube type fuel unit as it was not suitable for suction in the engine bay.
On the positive side I now have 2 new Hucco spare pumps. Plus a new Malpassi filter king sitting in a box.
Main beam headlights are now holding up the MOT booking date.:w
Headlights and indicators were working fine when I found and repaired the broken wire at the back of the engine bay fuse box. However, now the main beam is fine but switching to full beam the drivers driving side indicator won't flash and the front fog lights come on even though they are switched off. Multi switch won't turn off full the beam blue indicator or drivers side orange indicator indicator (those situated in the car bezel) so I have to turn light switch off and start again with main beam. Hazard lights work ok on full beam.
I guess it's an earth problem and maybe I've disturbed something. Any ideas where to start.

hi Ron its certainly sounds like the earth has failed on that side of the car and its all feeding back through the other lights

Cheers Will
Will have a closer look at what I've done.
Two steps forward one step back. But it's a good feeling to here the engine ticking over now it has a fuel supply.

As fog lights and main beam are involved, I’d suspect relays (particularly as the main beam sticks on).

Yep - they should be Ignition Control, Main Beam and Fog light I think?

Worth noting that on 6/6a at least, the main beam relay only relays the outer main beams, the inner main beams act as the trigger. Also IIRC the fog light relay is triggered by sidelights coming on, and then switches on the power supply for the rear and front fogs. So the fog light switch is still switching the full current  I'm not absolutely sure about the 6b & GTC, I think the main difference is that they have an extra fuse box at the front? (Disclaimer - I guess 404 might have been upgraded during the rebuild too?)

I kept the electrics as standard when I rebuilt it. Though I did change some of the original round relays for square ones of the same spec’.

Update.
Last night I switched everything on to fully test the whole lights and indicator sequence again. Every single thing working as it should. I've not touched a thing.
So right now I can't trace the fault.
