GTC water pump replacement

Post by Fred Warwick » Sat Oct 13, 2018 11:09 am

Morning All

I need to replace my water pump and looking at the parts diagrams it seems I will need pump and gasket, plus all the thermostat gaskets - is that right?

Thanks

Fred

Yep. I’d recommend the Ford (Capri, Granada, Sierra) 2.8 cologne Haynes manual for jobs like this as the Reliant books don’t have that kind of detail for the Cologne.

GTC water pump replacement

Hello Fred
I just did this job.
I would also suggest a new thermostat.
Its a little bit awkward getting the thermostat housings and gasket aligned for the bolts.
I held the gaskets with a small smear of grease and it worked perfectly.
Careful buying the pump as the pulley mount differs between cars from a round mount to a square ish one, have a look at current one

Cheers. All done now, I followed the advice of Dennis Nicholls a few years back - put blue hylomar on the rear thermostat housing/gasket then partly assemble everything else dry. Tighten the thermostat housing bolts to put pressure on the joint, leave for a while then dismantle all the front pieces and the rear housing is effectively glued in place making the final assembly much easier.
