SE6a Wiper "Wheel Boxes"

Post by Terry H » Sat May 19, 2018 8:31 pm

Thanks Ian,
I'm having difficulty getting mine off the wheel box spindle so not able to see any number that may be on the under side. I'm afraid I will have to cut the bezel off the spindle to get the wheel box off the car. Can you remember how much they were from GW, do I need to be sat down before I ring them.

Terry

From recollection they were nearly £20 each for 5 as trade plus VAT.

I can get you the part number on Monday. My spindles are badly corroded but I managed to get the bezel of. I may have pushed the spindle into the car. I am still struggling to access the wiper boxes mines a 6B. I also came across some at Car Electrics Components in Brighton. Page 6 of their Wiper Spares has a number of different bezels.

Mine's an SE6 Ian but should be the same as a SE6a/b. I tried giving mine a tap through to the inside of the car with a hammer but wouldn't move. Numbers may help if you have them to hand, thanks.

Terry

One plinth / bezel is marked 54712533 L.E.W 18 (could be 19). The other is marked 54712533 L.E.W.3. They are awkward to measure but, the OD is approx. 25 mm, the ID is approx. 16 mm. Long length is approx. 18 mm. Short length is approx. 10 mm.

Hope this helps

Thanks Ian,
Still haven't been able to get mine off the spindle, may try and warm it up with a heat gun next time I get over the garage. I assume they have to be a tight fit to stop rain ingress but these are looking like they have been stuck on with something.

Couldn't find anything with the numbers supplied by Ian, so rang GW who said they do supply wheel box bezels £13.50 for the kit which comprised of one rubber bezel, one oval washer and a chrome bezel. They arrived this afternoon and I took them over my garage to have a look how well they matched. Anyone spot the difference between the old and new. I did tell them they were for an SE6. The old wheel box is still stuck solid.

Just managed to get the old bezel off, not sure what GW have as a model for SE6 bezels but it's not right. The width is wrong the length is wrong the angle is wrong. No part number on the old one.

Is there a trick to getting these wheel boxes out as I cant get my hand through the small hole at the back of the dashboard. I can get my fingers to the left hand side of the nearside wheel box (which is the one I want to change) but not good enough to do anything with it.

Hi all,
I've had a word with Matt at GW about these new bezels and he says they are the right ones and that he's sold a lot of them. Has anyone on here bought any of these and if so what did you do to get them to fit.

That's what it looks like actually. Though I've never read anything from anyone else. As a matter of fact I'm not getting much of a response to this thread considering that Matt Graham said lots of these have been sold to Scimitar owners.

Send a photo to GW and see what they say!
I'm a bit worried by the subject as I need a pair for the GTC. Plenty on eBay but all for Minis and MGBs

Did so this morning when I spoke to Matt Graham at 11 am. Not heard from him yet but you can see from the photo's above that they are not right.
Anyone out there with a 3D printer who can scan and print a copy of my old one before I refit it to my new wheel box. Not that I have that fitted yet as I have to figure out how to get at the back of the old wheel box yet.

As said earlier £13.50 plus Vat plus postage, comes too £36.60 for two sets. A set includes the rubber bezel (as photo), a much shorter chrome bezel (shorter than the old bezel) and a oval washer. Just took a comparison photo of the kit bezels and my old bezel with a roll of paper taking the place of the wheel box shaft to show difference in angle, old one is far right.
