Kevin its in the end of the stalk, you can pull off the end and bend the contacts to stop the erratic blowing if you use a blunt instrument.

Doh!
I had already attacked it before you replied and stripped the whole lot, finally determining myself that the end must come off and it did.
Looking on the bright side the entire unit has been stripped, contacts cleaned, regressed and the broken steering column clamp repaired. I’ve also started prepping the steering wheel for fresh paint.

If I’d realised I could have fixed it in 5 minutes then done something else.

I have proven though that the assembly can be stripped and rebuilt.
