Re: Ups & Downs of Scimitar Ownership
I've got one of those Mountney steering wheels, which needs two big washers under the nut otherwise the nut runs out of thread before it clamps the wheel.

Re: Ups & Downs of Scimitar Ownership
That would be 2.1.2: Excessive steering shaft end float.
2.1.6 refers to the steering lock.

Re: Ups & Downs of Scimitar Ownership
Car went back to the garage as it was running with a few issues - uneven idle, stalling unless enthusiastic with the throttle, reluctant to start, not holding fast idle.
2 weeks later & a number of gaskets and carb rebuild, many road tests and fettling got the car back today and seems to be running really well so ended on an up! Thumbs up to Holmer Green Service Centre.

Ups & Downs of Scimitar Ownership
The scimitar gods giveth and take away. After 6 months of not being used a quick fettle and check secured an MOT with no advisories last Wednesday - happy days and cue daily driving.
Oddly once fully warm the idle keeps dropping and stalling, resetting the fast idle can resulted in a screaming engine on cold start so I think I've got an air leak, timing issues or something else.
Car started running hot, topped up coolant and all good. Stuck in traffic yesterday whilst getting into the Hedsor car show - only scimitar there - temp gauge hit 110 so parked up and had a look at the cars. Small coolant leak under the car but scooted to the pub for lunch and home with no issues or leaks. Odd.
Went to work today, temp hit just over 90 but no leaks, used the car on site, all fine. Head home, no signs of coolant under the car. Rough running once hot and temp over 90. Pull up outside the garage, open up drive in, check where the car was stopped and nothing. Switch off and shut garage door and have a look under the car - constant dribble of coolant. On investigation it appears the radiator I had re-cored a few years ago must have had a tiny hole that expanded at high temp but finally let go tonight. So no more daily driving for me for a bit.
On the plus side it let go once I got it home and the coolant is as clean as it went in so that's something.... Oh well, the joys of classic ownership! Did pass the MOT though....
