Just looked it up with DVLA - "You can apply to stop paying vehicle tax if your vehicle was built before 1 January 1978. You must tax your vehicle even if you don’t have to pay."

So that answers that.

Cheers,

Mike.

The only problem may be their new version of “built” for historic class, now being “registered”. This change is 4 weeks away and we still don’t have the detail we need.

Hi I have tried to claim my historic road tax last week and what a shambles my main post office is , they said all they do is tax cars and sorn them  A long story cut short I phoned the DVLA and they refuse to take my log book registration date as proof of age ( 19/5/1978 ) and want the BUILD date, I would have thought the car would be registered After it was built , anyway I know my build date is October 1977 because of the replies of the previous posts to this thread, but the DVLA said get in touch with the manufacturer  to get the build date :bh :dh

my log book registration date as proof of age ( 19/5/1978 )
That date would mean you have to wait until April 2019 for Historic Tax. Not sure if October 1977 would get you Historic Tax either yet.

You can’t do it at a PO if your V5 says it’s not old enough (registration date as they’ve stopped accepting changes to build date so you’re not eligible until next year). You need to contact Chairman Kevin, who is the DVLA point of contact for the Club. He should be able to confirm build date to their satisfaction (there may be a small fee as you’re not a club member?)

Hi, my 6a reg feb444w was originally purchased in May 1980.....I'm going to find out when it was made but am having many troubles with working on it.....I've purchased three different manuals and some bits and assemblies differ to all manuals!

I have chassis N°5477, first registered April 1980. Is that fairly close to yours? I am assured by "the blokes" on here that it was made in November '79. Everything I have worked on up to now corresponds to the descriptions in the Brooklands books manual, and the Graham Walker website diagrams. Where are your problems, exactly?

Hi, just posted under facial removal....need to check all electrics and all manuals state that steering covers come apart prior to facial removal.. Mine is pop rivetted to dash facial and I cannot remove the centre one as column in way. The facial comes up against the light/indicator stalks so I cannot remove it upward to get behind to disconnect leads etc

FEB444W is around 100 from the end of the SE6a numbers (Nov 79 build).
