System Crash - Wed 13 Sept 2017

Post by Ian » Wed Sep 13, 2017 9:43 am

I apologise for the break in service this morning. The IP address of our server apparently became unavailable at around 06:30 for reasons as yet unknown. It should now be operating normally.

I have not been able to access Scimweb for 48 hours, just got messages that my home router/hub was faulty and I must contact my service provider for a fix.
BS as I have been able to use every other service that my router and service provider allows me.

I've detected abnormal activity in the early hours of Thursday morning as well but can't tell what effect it might have had on users. Please let me know if there were access problems between midnight and 09:30am.
The problems show some signatures of Denial of Service attacks but I'm doubtful that we would be targeted.

Looks to have had lighter and more random effects this time. I'll keep my eye on things a bit closer for a while and see if I can spot exactly what is happening.

I had just checked that everything was ok and minutes later it was down. I was able to respond quickly with a system reboot that got it all back. I am at a loss and feel a bit out of my depth with this. I can see from logs WHAT happened but not WHY. I'll keep investigating.
