Light car transporter trailer on the M4 corridor to borrow?

Post by reliant-reviver » Wed Jun 14, 2017 12:08 pm

Anyone within a reasonable distance able to aid me in toeing the line of a filed divorce and allowing me the usage of their car trailer for this weekend?

I've a post 1997 towing entitlement so can only tow up to 3500Kgs GTW. Tow car weighs 1400kgs, an SS1 weighs 900kgs, so really a trailer weighing sub 600kgs unladen would be nice for staying well within that. However my understanding is the old bill regards a towed load as the MAM as stated on the trailer plate regardless of what is actually on top of it, so ideally need something plated at under 2000KGS GROSS.

If anyone has a trailer that does fit the bill and would entrust me with it, I'm happy to hand over a sizeable deposit should the worst happen and expect it back minus an allowance of beer tax.

Alternatively, a bucket of icy water and a sharp palm to the cheek should suffice and I'll come to my senses.

I think you need to seek a trailer of a certain age where plated rating was an optional extra...back from the days where you could make one from a caravan chassis and make the plate yourself.

I think mine's plated at 2000kg. But it is quite small. The biggest car I've moved with it was a 5A. I borrowed Steve O's trailer when I went to pick up a GTC.

Hi,

You can borrow mine, or if it was on Sunday I could do the towing for you?
Trailer is 570kg unladen, 1380kg payload and 1950kg max gross weight

I'm near Bristol

I've not checked the plate on my trailer - perfect for SS1 but a 5a scrapes both tyres on the outer edge and hangs over the back. You're welcome to borrow it but I won't be able to check the plate until tomorrow evening.

is this relating to the naughty email you sent me the other day?

Mrs RR was "receptive" to me heading to a certain auction in Wiltshire on Saturday. Naughty-email-vehicle may well be the rebound.

God forbid should I actually put my hand in the air for any of the SS1s or the GTE. But I'd rather find myself in hot water than see anything go unsold or into badly intentioned hands.

I mean there's a whole stack of other priorities that I should well... prioritise. BUT I'm a sucka for Scimitar sob stories.

Gavin, your trailer sounds spot on spec wise. PM on it's way. The auctioneers need all lots cleared by the end of the Saturday otherwise I'd take you up on the driving offer and perhaps have the old "grey area" towing frame on hand incase.
