White SE5a in Birmingham on ebay

Post by Supersub » Fri Nov 02, 2018 9:51 pm

Hi

Interested in this car but recently moved to Mablethorpe (yes yes John (Unwin) I know I haven't told you new address etc yet. Will get round to it soon). Right where was I. Interested in SE5a for sale in Birmingham so would appreciate it if anybody local with suitable knowledge could go and have a look at it. The seller has added a few more pics and has given me his phone number although at present he has not given me his name. I intend to give him a ring over the weekend. I realise that I would be intruding on someones free time but even though I owned one for a few months (stupidly sold it on having just got it bedded in) my knowledge as to what to ask and look for is basically zilch. I drive them not crawl under them!

Hopefully one of you (or maybe 2 or 3) can help me out.

Regards
Mike

Evening Jim

Thanks for the response. I agree under bonnet does look a mess and the carpet? Nuf said. However it it may not be as bad as it looks but without a proper look who knows.

On a different tack can't get to the NEC this year so will miss meeting up with the usual crowd for a chinwag.

Regards
Mike

Just to add to the info supplied on ebay the seller added the following further info in his email to me

"Hello Mike. Have added rear interior shot, doors, engine bay ,engine photos to ad. Will try to get chassis photo as lots of people asking about outriggers. They were replaced before i bought it and i painted the whole chassis to protect it. Car always garaged while i have owned it.mileage says 55700 but i assume it's done more, saying that i have only done about 6k in nearly 10 years and it was stored before.Has o/d but needs the solenoid replacing, had it tested and o/d itself seems to click in as it should, never bothered me as i used it to commute across town, local buzzing about and b roads so never really needed it. It's such a torquey engine anyway. they said a access hatch has been cut in tunnel to access solenoid without having to drop the box out so that will make it a easier job to do.

If the overdrive is clicking, that’s the solenoid you can hear, so I doubt that’s the fault. First check is always oil level, then clean the filters, then it starts to get expensive. And the solenoid is easily accessible from underneath, so I wonder what the hole is for?

Hi Manny - don't have his address. He says in the advert that it's in central Birmingham. Have his number though which is 07956 546124. However from what JIm is saying it might be a bit of a money pit which is not what I am looking for. Preferably want one which is a runner can be easily/cheaply be improved. Perhaps the latest owner of TWU 651L would like to sell it back to me!

Thanks for the offer though to go and have a look. Will think on.

I wouldn’t discount the car entirely - as long as you go in from an informed position you might get the car you want at the price you want?
