GRP or wood ?

That is stunning!
Sjef Schlepers was building a wooden bodies Scimitar - but that one seems to have an Aston Martin badge.

GRP or wood ?

I am speechless.
Is it real?
If so, there are thousands of hours of work to produce - a joke on a 2CV chassis ?

GRP or wood ?

Well, they made aircraft from wood well in to the 50's (mosquito, vampire, etc) so why not cars. A descent body tub can be constructed from plywood, and modern epoxy finishes can make them strong and pretty resistant to the weather. Quite often its all down to the glue. and the construction method. Compound curves can be created using hot/cold molding. Just look at the old Firefly/Albacore sailing dinghies as well. And very easy to repair.

Now that is pretty (well, sort of).
But, without reading the article I am fairly sure the headlights, bumper and bonnet louvres are not wood ;-)

Steve, I wasn't questioning the possibility of doing it, just WHY in that particular case, with two different body styles and on a pathetic chassis that looks already stressed by the weight.

Here are a couple of pics of Sjef's Scimitar 'in progress'

GRP or wood ?

I saw one of those "wooden" reproductions at a show last summer. It wasn't wood at all, it was a cleever film-wrap job over a metal body. A guy in the Jura sells the film pre-printed with almost any effect you could want, including Denim or carbon-fibre.

Does anyone remember the 'Africar' project that involved making ply wood bodied 2CVs?
