NEW MEMBER... Scimitar ish pick up.
Hello, this site was brought to my attention a few months back by a friend that had found a post featuring a black hot rod my dad made from a scimitar years ago that looked a little like a ford model A.
He’s made another so i figured id sign up and post some pictures up as the comments on his black one seemed positive and i think this one is even better. My dad loves using the scimitars to build from makes them real easy to do being able to lift the body from the frame.
Would be nice to hear some feedback from people.
Thanks Carl.

Welcome - looks like great fun
TR6 banded steels?
Good to see it’s origins recognised for a change.

Hello, yes TR6 wheels, fronts are standard width rears are banded. He was going to write ford on the tailgate but decided to keep people wondering what it was and write Reliant on there instead.

Speaking as someone who no longer owns a Scimitar but saved a Scimitar from Scrap. Your father seems to be very talented. If the chassis was good, the engine, gearbox and axle was good. Why destroy a Scimitar to make that. Maybe he could save a Scimitar instead of destroying one.

I like the “why destroy a scimitar to build that” mind haha i know its not to everyones taste but he built the whole thing with his bare hands.

He just loves building one off vehicles, he did a buggy from a vw beetle that was all tubing and a trike from a diesel metro that had magazine features, he doesn’t build for people just enjoying his retirement tinkering in his garage.

Yeah thats one thing i always look at aswell, its a perspex panel it raises like a sunroof or lifts out, he toy’d with making it look like a vinyl webasto style but the cars not finished yet it may get changed at some point.

No major chassis mods for the most part the ones my dad does for the most part keep chassis and drive train as it was, the ministry just change the body type on the log book.Geraint SabreGTCse5 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 24, 2018 11:38 amlot of work gone into that project.... how does it manage to retain its id with the chassis modifications? ..... it is shown as a blue gte?

There's enough GTEs festering in fields and plenty of owners with more projects than time (myself included) so I say all power to your dad, that looks very well finished and I love the nod to its roots proudly displayed on the tail gate.

with out detracting from the craftmanship gone into creating your pickup .... the chassis has been shortened front and rear and the outriders removed which is a major modification in the eyes of the DVLA unless the rules have changed and registering made easier recently I can't see it being allowed to keeps its GTE id ...... that is with out the added complication of a change of body style from a car to a pick up ... I am sure you have looked into it though....Carl_180980 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 24, 2018 1:15 pmNo major chassis mods for the most part the ones my dad does for the most part keep chassis and drive train as it was, the ministry just change the body type on the log book.Geraint SabreGTCse5 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 24, 2018 11:38 amlot of work gone into that project.... how does it manage to retain its id with the chassis modifications? ..... it is shown as a blue gte?
just curious as theres a GTE local to me on a q plate because the owner converted it to a pick up, it has not had the amount of work yours has and still looks like a GTE from the front.
