Hi all.
Mark from Australia, new member late last year, just working this site out, I'm a klutz with computers.
This post in the correct place?
Everyone seems very helpful. Proud owner of a manual 6B, believed to be the only one out here. If I can work out how I'll
put up a photo.

407 6b made Mark (amended from 437 a few years ago) - much rarer than those common old ragtops and one day they’ll command the prices they deserve :D

Mark from down-under.
Funny you mentioned the GTC, I looked at a few Triumph Stags, I have a Dolomite Sprint as well ( can I type the " T " word here OK? )
But didn't find anything to a decent standard I could afford, was wrapped when the 6B came up. I wanted something different,
I've scored a pass there, no one here knows what it is.You lot seem good value, thanks for the welcomes. Still trying to sus-out
the photos, I'll get there.

That is a very nice looking car - not that fond of the 2.8 engine myself - the 2.9 in our MB is much better. The T word is fine by me having had nine of them - only rust let them down hence our move to Scimitars - we have four. Currently in NZ staying with friends on holiday which is why I am mailing while most of the rest of the club members are still in bed. I did colour wiring drawings for the Scimitars which you can find by looking for the link to the Newcastlle web page - then technical - then wirings. Much easier to use than the b/w drawings ( if I say so myself ).

Looks Great! What colour is it? Looks like Rover Night fire red but I'm sure it must be an original reliant red.
Great buy for you and nice to have something different and very british in the land of OZ 😀

rich001, the pictures a bit dark on my screen but the metallic red is very close to the same on my #339 build, but the laquer has failed on mine.

Jim where did the 30 go?, according to the4bears production started at 5429 and ended at 5865 = 436 minus # 5836 " which became MB prototype".
Grand total of 435.

Was the 30 just missed out of production figures here and there?, or at the start or end of production?. :w

They were 6a's (well, fitted with an Essex anyway).

Ford must have found some more 3.0 engines in a shed in Dagenham..or Reliant stock control strikes again

"What's in that container over there, Fred?"

"Damn - forgot about them!"

So what your saying phil is the "missing" numbers came from the beginning of production?.

The engine bay on a 6b is very different to a 6a, so just looking under the bonnet I could pick out a B from an A.
Just because it was Essex rather than Cologne that removed it from the 6b list?. :(

AND how many GTE/GTC still have the original engine?. :w

Production started at 5429 and ended at 5865 but not all of them were 6b. Once GTE production was restarted they continued to produce 6a bodies with Essex engines alongside the 6b - presumably using the last stock of bodies and engines that was left for nearly a year when they halted production for the first batch of 300 ish GTC.

Ok Jim.
So as there are no "codes" within the chassis number to state which engine was fitted the ONLY way of checking for A or B would be the engine bay moulding and the very different steelwork, plus the different front plastic grill moulding, presuming the car STILL has it`s original engine and grill.
In conclusion then if a chassis was stamped after 5429 and later than November 1979 ( 9 + L ) don`t assume its a 6B.
