Coming back after more than 20 years

Post by AP756 » Tue Jan 23, 2018 10:57 am

Hi there,

German oldtimer here :D . I bought my first Scimitar in 1987, had several of them over the years, but due to business I stopped being a member of RSSOC around 2000. Recently I retired and remembered the "good old times" and now I'm going to bring my SS1 1600 (stored for 20 years) back to life. Reason enough to get in touch again, this time via Internet. Looking for a good time here on the forum and maybe someone remembers my name (positively :?) .

Gottfried

Are you the ex Porsche test driver or am I getting mixed up - I thought you had a 1800TI. International in France this year - hopefully someone will send you the paperwork to attend. Things have moved on a little bit - you can now get a wiring drawing in colour from here. https://www.scimitarweb.co.uk/~nenoggins/Wiring.htm

Hello and welcome back!

Yes a familiar name amongst those immersed in the world of Scimitars.

I still have an example of "your" brake upgrade in my possession.

I seem to recall you had written a rather amusing letter in a Slice circa 1989/1990 that spoke of the dismay for Reliant discontinuing the distinctive SS1 and replacing it with the boring looking SST  I could be getting my wires crossed though, but it was certainly from a German club member.

Hi
I most certainly remember you as we used to email a fair bit.
If I recall you used to stay with Dave and June in Dagenham

Welcome back Gottfried! :D Good to hear you've still got the car, and look forward to hearing more about it's (and your) return. And, picking-up on Phil's theme, here's another one: :D

What a warm welcome. I'm impressed :). Yes, I'm that bloody foreigner who wrote some articles in Slice and had some fun with his former 1800ti. Thanks for the photos. The Scimitar who is still with me is a white SS1 1600 (I'm getting older and slower :D )., the only one of my 4 SS1 I stored. The rest I've sold due to lack of space and time.

Peter, I can't make it to the International this year, because I want to re-register my Scimi as a historic car and I have to wait until 2019 (30 years from first registration). So you have to wait another year before seeing me in person again... Yes, Dagenham, my English home. Unfortunately Dave passed away last Februar, I still have some "loose contact" to June. Due to the fact she got a strong accent and I'm a bloody foreigner conversations are a bit "exhausting" for both of us.

Well, that's enough for the moment. Keep the good photos coming, I love them :-). Hope to see you sometimes in the (near) future.

Gottfried

PS: Is my old membership number still available? I'd like to have a low number (max 3 digits) when I rejoin the RSSOC ;--)

Drop the Club Secretary an email - I’m sure he can oblige ;)

Nothing to stop you coming in "new" car - I wish it was a 30 year rule in the UK - we have to wait until the car is 40 years old

Hello Gottfried!

Long time since we heard from you. Good to hear you are still into Scimitars. The 'old' German gang is no longer active. Chis P. sold his cars, Marc P. still has his 1800ti, in storage for ages now.

Hello Gottfried.

Welcome back to the fold. May I have the VIN and engine numbers of your SS1 for the register please? Any photographs you may have of your car would also be very much appreciated.

Many thanks

@Erik: Yeah, a long time no hear. My job got me "sucked in" and I stopped driving Scimitars because I needed a daily runner and my Scimitars let me down several times (not a big deal if you have some time, but...). Luckily I had a chance to take an early retirement and now I'm my own boss again :D. First thing I did was buying a workshop, then I moved the remaining Scimitar to my new home. After things getting sorted my little Scimi (the slow one  ) will be back on the road.

@Mike: VIN is SCD211370HJ001173, first registered to the road in Germany 13.06.1989, LHD, 5 speed, engine number not known (yet), it's a 1567ccm Ford according to the paperwork 70KW (96PS), big brake conversion, 5,5x14 alloy wheels (looking for 7x15). It's white and still has the dust of 20 years storing in a garage on it. I'll attach an actual foto now, better fotos will (hopefully) come over the time...

Bye for now Gottfried (member no. 2289, got my old one, thanks John :) )
