Another Scimitar newbie

Post by cannonball » Wed Dec 13, 2017 12:56 pm

Hello everybody, the Scimitar has always seemed an attractive car to me and I finally bit the bullet on Monday. After driving south for what seemed like a lifetime in a transporter the Scimitar was eventually loaded on board and the journey back up north began, absolutely terrified the car would fall off the back progress was slow to begin with but speed picked up considerably when back onto the M74 then the crawl up the A9 eventually reaching home in Nairn (the fastest town in Scotland) just after 10pm. On the journey north I was half expecting to see the old timer or two on the Le Jog run but nuffin at all.

For many years I was a fan of the magnificent Rover Sd1 having had nine of the things and all v8 powered, the last of which was sold last year when we moved house and I had nowhere to store in between times. The Scimitar is almost like a step back in time for me, lots of things to do but it will keep me very busy in the months ahead providing I don't drop off the perch first.

The first car I looked at was a cream and brown 6b near Aberdeen but it was not for me, the one I eventually bought is the bright Yellow one recently advertised on these pages. No doubt there will be lots of daft questions to come.

Norman.

Thanks guys, lots of things to do to the new arrival and the most urgent is the replacement of the crank shaft seal as it is spewing out more oil than the Torry Canyon, at present it is sitting in a nice warm garage drying out a damp interior.

And it's predecessor which was sold last year.

Welcome, Norman!
Fraser's car, I believe.
Always hoped to see him again (after a single appearance) at the Kirkcudbright Gathering, but it wasn't to be, with his situation.
Hope to see you there sometime. Join me and Kevin E to keep the Scim side up. :)

Just coughed up the RSSOC joining fee.

Yes Dave6726 it's Fraser's old car, lots of things on the to do list starting with the oil leak, the fuel smell, the door/tailgate locks, the window regulator and sealing the leaks so I will start a new thread on it's resurrection but that will not be until the festivities are over as I will have a lot more time to devote to the car just like scimitargtc's post above. Hopefully it will make an appearance at a show up north sometime in 2018.

Welcome,
Great colour!! Looks in better shape generally than mine, mine was an eBay purchase and having owned one many yrs ago it was a pleasure to get hold of one for very little money but with it being cheap I knew there would be much to do.I hope to have mine rd worthy by late summer to attend a local show that has a classic car section amongst the tractors ( well I am in Norfolk). Good luck with the resto iam sure we will face many of the same problems.

Kevin
