Do you mean the brass(?) knurled nuts? Definitely not plastic as they corrode to the studs in the lights.

Mine look remarkably like plastic, but they are so weathered it could be swiss cheese quite frankly,I know they were manufactured with step in them reducing their diameter, they are certainly knurled..

I fitted m5 nutserts in my body work and mushroom head bolts to hold the lights to the car then I modified the lens in the same way so that the whole assembly can be removed from the car from the outside. Then topped them off with LED panels instead of bulbs

If you’ve saved or repaired the original studs, I’d probably use small nylon wing nuts to refit?

I would have guessed at UNF (around 1/8”) - or possibly a BA size?

I saved all the original Metal inserts in the lenses, filed them flat, soldered a M3 hex spacer to them or drilled and tapped a M3 thread into them, where still in good shape.
Then I uses stainless M3 Bolt (guess they where 60mm?) some plastic hex spacers screwed onto them for better handling and some stainless washers.

Then I bolted these right into the m3 Holes in the lense: Through the zinc housing and seals and bolted them carefull to not snap the M3...

Depending on how collapsible your seal is this lasts ok. The M3 threaded Metal parts retain well against the zinc housing and body.
Bit fiddly but was worth the effort.

Like so:

Would help if we knew which GTE we are talking about?.
The early GTE Lucas 782 used flat nuts and the later SE5a used mild steel slotted bobbins.

I have a few of the OE slotted bobbins, which were zinc plated, and some Brass knurled type that I made as an easier way of mounting the light units.
