Gaz Shocks for SS1 for sale

Post by Corky » Sat Jan 27, 2018 5:31 pm

Just trying to gauge some interest. I'll keep these on the shelf if nobody is interested.

I have a full set of Gas shocks for a small sports that will coming off my car in the next 3 weeks.

These have probably done only about 100 miles, so are as new.

I scored a bit of an own goal by ordering them with rose jointed bushes rather than rubber, as I'd convinced myself I was going to compete with the car in ModProd. Instead I'm doing RG and rose jointed suspension isn't allowed. I'll also have a rose jointed ARB conversion for sale too

The rose joints ensure that the shock is free to operate without any twisting. They need greasing about every 12 months, but apart from that they should be maintenance free.
The front shocks (adjustable) were customised for me by GAZ and are 13" eye to eye and are little bit chunkier than the standard ones.
The rears have adjustable height as well as the 20 step piston settings.
I will include a set of rear springs (worth £40 on their own).

If you were to buy a standard set (without rear springs) from the traders, you would need to shell out over £500. You can have these for just £350

Gaz are currently making me another set with rubber bushes and a couple of other improvements. So once they arrive, these will be available.

The rears are standard length (I can’t remember what that is fully open, 15” rings a bell though).

Springs are 220lb IIRC.

These won't be much use for raising the suspension height. You're probably looking at a max height at the front of 6" ground to jacking point and max of about 7.5" at the rear. You could move the pick up points, but longer shocks would be the better bet.

IIRC 6" ground to jacking point is standard.

On AVOs the 'eye ' each end is the same for bushes and rose joints, can you not just remove the rosejoint spherical bearings and pop poly or rubber bushes in Corky and then they will work for you?

I wish...... :w

It’s a different eye, so their bushes don’t fit. I could have had the eyes converted for £40 + postage + vat each. The top ones have to be cut off, new ones welded on and the shock body re-plated. Other option was to find some bushes that fit, or have some poly ones turned on a lath. Too much of a PITA. So I just ordered another set.

Gaz Shocks for SS1 for sale

Post by Jhdelta » Sat Jan 27, 2018 8:24 pm

I was hoping to get 8.6 inches to the sills judging by other cars i have used for targa rally. I was planning to order longer front coil springs so the front shocks should be good? Im wondering if i can weld/ add to the top or bottom or both to achive the increase with these? One thing i am unsure about is if this sort of lift will mess with the geomatery too much. Any advise welcome

If you un bolt lower of rear shock and Jack up to your 8.6" to jacking point it will show the geometry. Id guess you will end up with a couple of degrees of positive rear camber

I'd be worried about rear CV joints at that angle too?

The autograss boys, Berrisford and the like do higher angle CVs if required

jacked the car up to 220mm as sugested pics below.

standard height is 165mm to the sill and 145mm with me in.

i also measured the camber in a rudementry way so wont be absolutly accurate but got + 1.3 degrees at 165mm and -0.8 degrees at 220mm

hopefully the pics upload so you can see the drive shaft angle

Those figures look odd to me? My car is a bit lower than yours, and it has a smidge of negative camber, so I'd expect yours to be about zero or a bit positive. But then, as you jack-up the car, you can see that as the wheels droop, they moves inward at the base, increasing positive camber.

There's a lot more info on setup measurements in this sticky thread

My new RG legal shocks have arrived, so these are now for sale.

Full set of GAZ spherical bushed custom shocks

These have probably only done about 100 miles, so are as new.

The spherical bushes (AKA rose joints) ensure that the shock is free to operate without any twisting.

You can have these for just £350. Postage at cost
