FOR SALE: 1985 SS1 1600 GALVANISED CHASSIS!

Post by upstart8s » Wed Aug 30, 2017 10:43 am

due to joining the NHS waiting list for 2 replacement knee operations, I have decided to sell the SS1 which I bought from EBAY in April of this year. I believe the car was regenerated in recent years by a forum member following some time in storage. It has the benefit of a galvanised chassis with a 1600cc engine and 5-speed gearbox. It is nowhere near concourse condition (but of course has that potential for an enthusiastic future owner).

I bought the car unseen and drove it 100 miles home along the M1 racetrack without any problems. I would prefer that any potential buyer has a test-drive before giving a commitment to buy (I have plenty of spare time to accommodate this). I paid £710 for the car and I offer the car on the forum for offers around £500 to clear.

The car has a ragged soft-top and a decent (white) hardtop. The biggest problem I have found is with the drivers door window, the mechanism works but the guides need a fix.

You have all seen many photographs of SS1cars, but if you want pictures of anything specific, let me know.

A tad out of my way then as I'm the opposite end of the M1 in Reading. Hopefully it finds a good home!

Sorry Max, I should have pointed out that Worksop is in the frozen North of Nottinghamshire. It is halfway between the A1m and the M1, just off the A57. the postcode is S80 2RY.
I should also have added that the car is currently on the road, taxed for another month and insured and TESTED until March 2018 (with a clean sheet MOT) and that the mileage is currently showing 110 000, but the speedo was exchanged @ around 130 000 with a used replacement, so I would guess mileage is 135 000 or thereabouts. By the way, the tacho doesn't work at the moment. More details when I remember...

It looks as though I have a committment, plus a couple of reserves, so it looks as though this has ended. Thanks for your interest,

Just a post to thank everyone for the interest shown in this car (if only I had half a dozen) which was SOLD to a pleasant young man in TAMWORTH today, couldn't be better. I will now be on the lookout for an AUTOMATIC 6a for use after my knees are done...

oops! I forgot to mention the splendid work done by the previous owner who did such a good job of regenerating the car to its' present standard. It is nowhere near concours condition but is a good basic small sports car capable of giving lots of fun.

Many thanks Stu, another SS1 in the King household :D

DJ arrived at the workshop safely at around 1630, we fixed the drivers side electric window, changed the seats for a standard pair, changed the bottle top wheels for some 15", fitted a slightly smaller aftermarket steering wheel, took a hood cover from stock, topped up the brake fluid and engine oil and tidied up some wiring.

Little jobs to do include fitting a better soft top, sorting out the rad fan sensor (currently on a manual switch), the aerial and the electric mirrors which are only working L/R and not up/down.

He arrived back home in Portsmouth safely half an hour ago.
