Auto gearbox

Post by kevincooper » Tue Jul 25, 2017 10:40 am

Hi All

Does anyone have a C3 auto gearbox complete with bell housing they do not want? I can collect from South UK or from Scimfest.

Many thanks

Kevin

Time to be thinking about fitting a 4 speed auto box I think if your 3 speed box is duff. The 4 speed is much better.

I am told the MB box will fit - early A4LD with the same kick down as the 3 speed and the gear stick can be modified to use on the box if you cannot find a original MB one. I was also told that the 4 speed will fit onto the 3 speed bell housing Hopefully someone with more knowledge of auto boxes will confirm one way or the other.

The A4LD has a Cologne bellhousing. I'm told that a C3 Essex bellhousing can be swapped, but I cocked up the one that I tried it out on!

I once wrote a topic regarding fitting the A4LD to Essex engine. It was in early 2010, probably has been erased already? A short summary is that you can make the 4 speed work with small modifications but fitting the lockup converter requires so much fabrication that I chose to keep the original C3 converter with it.

Hi All

I need the bell housing and the pump to swop onto the A4LD to give me the 4 speed auto box. The gearbox in the Red Devil 5a was a Borg Warner not a Ford, so not very helpful.

Thanks

Kevin

It's not a straight swap as you'll see from Heikki's excellent thread.

I can bring some service items to Curborough if you wish? I have in stock for the C3:

Sump gaskets
Pan filters
Pan Filter seal
1st/rev servo small seal
1st/rev servo large seal
1st/rev servo gasket
AQF in 5 litres.

All of which ought to be done on the new 'box.
