As above - Registration number RUJ786H. Chassis number 470734. Lot no. 94. Estimate £2,500 - £3,500.....opening bid to be £1,250. 50,252 on the clock. Sitting on steels at the back, 'composites' on the front. "Needs recommissioning"..."from a deceased estate" - fair bit of work needed in the engine bay. Rocker switches added to the dash & the centre console is certainly not standard. The most intriguing thing is that the rear light units look to be 5a..........& the B-post is black.. :)

Looks very much like a 5a, aside from where someone has tried to fit an SE5 dash to it to me. Certainly a 5a body, a later (post-72) engine. Without confirmation of what the chassis number has stamped on it, it isn't exactly what it first appears to me.

Pop rivets on the chassis plate look quite new though? Newer than the bolts holding the body onto the chassis..

surely thats an SE5a

bonnet hinges, and doors would suggest anyway......however dash is 5 ! think it may be more than 1 car from Birth, paint looks quite fresh though.

The dash looks like it came from an SE5 originally. Still has the 5a gauges and switchgear as far as I can see. The centre console vents match with the 5a heater arrangement (as seen from the engine bay) but no picture of what might have been done with the dash vents at either end of the main dash panel..

Or a 5 trying to look (ish) like 5a?

Plus side - looks like a tidy body. I’m not sure it belongs to the chassis (or number) though.

The one piece grille-recess would indicate 5a, would it not?

As would the rest of the body, Geoff. No doubting it is a 5a body. The question is if the reg number matches the chassis or not.

DVLA says no MoT results but I think that means it’s been declared exempt rather than expired a long time ago.

Biggest clue (aside from finding the chassis number stamped in the upright) would be underneath - if it's got the mountings for the tubular crossbrace under the rear of the sump (inner edges of the chassis rails) like your SE5, then it's highly likely to be an SE5 chassis. If it's got a flat plate underneath (like the gearbox crosmember) in the same area - or the 4 captive nut holes there, then it's not an SE5 chassis.

a 5a with a poor home made section replacing the original black plastic instrument surround, the 5a dash top and glove box is still visible.....

5a pretending to be a 5 ......... Caveat emptor
