GTC For Sale

Post by Ian Lock » Sun May 13, 2018 9:47 pm

Hi just spotted this GTC for sale on easypray . I viewed this car this time last year with a new MOT with the view to add it to my collection as it was a 1980 GTC and a manual overdrive, which are quite rare . The Interior is very good being black , has a new valor roof and tornneu cover . The Chassis has been painted in Hammerite all over as he has a pit in his garage . The Engine runs well the oil pressure is a little high at 75 P.S.I. The paintwork has no Blisters / Crazing or Cracks the colour is very nice that has been changed from Red. The only thing that lets it down is that when he sprayed it did it in his garage and covered it in dust and hair thrown up by the compressor . But at the price of £3795 is well worth a look .
Hopes this helps anyone looking for a Manual GTC.

GTC For Sale

Post by scimjim » Sun May 13, 2018 10:16 pm

Is it this one?

Interestingly, the perception that a manual overdrive GTC is rare, is a misconception presumably based on those being offered for sale. I remember looking at the 6b & GTC registers and around 50% of all GTC built were manual :D

Of the 380 known GTC chassis numbers on the register, over 200 are manual overdrive. Obviously, this is as they left the factory, and not later conversions. So Jim, I think you are probably right that any misconception is down to the numbers that come up for sale.

Sorry once again for the Fake News . But just thought it might help someone looking for a Manual GTC not in bad nick. There is another GTE Cream 1980 Auto come up on same
sight ,also a SE4 1974 Green one on Bubble Gum Bush . I wont say anymore about them as I might get trolled for Fake News again .

Sorry you think we were insinuating you were providing fake news. That certainly was not my intention.

I have seen remarks concerning the purpose of the model registrars and whether information they hold can be disseminated. I have only just taken over the GTC Registrar role and thought it might be helpful to confirm the point mentioned.

Should i just disappear into the background and keep the facts to those in the know :? I don't wish too :D

Ian, thanks for the heads up on the cream one, although not a GTC hopefully useful to someone looking for one

Thanks for that message perhaps I'm a little bit paranoid after some of the stick I have had in the past with my postings.

I don't want to disappear and get a pipe and slippers nor take up gardening .

I do like posting some of my views on here .

I very much like the GTE SE6a having taken a small bit part in the manufacture of the Reliant Brand .

Out of my 4 (3 current) GTC’S 50% have been manual and 50% Auto. Nothing wrong with genuine fake news. Been there done that got several Armani Teeshirts. :D
Manual was my nostalgic preference choice. However, the automatics offer a similar most enjoyable form of Scimitar driving experience. Well they will be when they are MOT’D.

Trying to check the MOT history on this particular GTC registration. However, I must be putting it down incorrectly. OPP101V
What am I missing?

I haven't checked the full MOT record but if something seems to be missing, it might be that for a period this GTC had another private registration. The GTC register has a note of a "current" registration different to OPP101V.

If the register detail is correct, it seems unusual to me for the car to be put back on a previous plate unless the owner transferred it to another vehicle they owned, then back again (unless I misunderstand something about registration retention)
