GTC for sale by auction - 20 November - 1pm.

Post by tyke 1508 » Sun Nov 12, 2017 10:44 pm

This is in Wakefield, West Yorkshire - www.cwharrison.com

1981 Red, brown leather interior, mileage 100K, from a deceased estate.

No estimate or further details are published. There are some photos, not very revealing, and I can't make out the registration, but the car seems to be in decent condition.

Viewing Saturday 18 November 9.00am to 12 noon, or on morning of sale from 9.00am.

They're desperately small photos if they're trying to get people interested, I've been trying to enhance the reg, and, this is a bit speculative so apologies to the owner if it isn't, but I suspect it *might* be KWO352W in which case it would be no 111 ??????? (Obviously it would be a good idea to confirm the details with the auctioneers)

Wow - less than 3k miles in 10 years, then it did over 12k last year!

Just spoken on the phone to the auctioneers, they didn't have full details as they are still making up the lots, but the lady I spoke to looked at a larger version of the photo and read out KWO352W.

If so, that makes it one of the Club's NEC show display cars in 2010 (see Dave Poole's Sporting Reliants), advertised for sale on here a couple of years or so ago, (and I believe it did eventually sell).

Hi,
This was my car until January 2016 - I sold it to a delightful chap called Mike, from the Leeds area. So it's a shame to see that it's now for sale "from a deceased estate".
I did a fair bit of work on it during my (fairly brief) ownership and it was going well when I sold it - the paintwork was (and probably still is from the photos) very good indeed. I wish now I'd kept it (I'm sure you've heard that one before) but I never really got on top of the vague gearchange, and in fact promptly bought an automatic one.
Ian

Just been to look - and for someone wanting to acquire one - it is a very decent example indeed. Paintwork has flaws but is more than passable, and could be improved. Hood has been trapped in the frame mechanism both sides at the front, creating holes (but only on one panel each side), otherwise not too bad. Interior OK, even though the colour would not be my choice. Engine bay very tidy. Underneath, more or less typical of a car that is 30+ years old but everything looks acceptable and sound. Mechanically ?? - unknown, but based on the rest of the car I would be willing to gamble that it probably does not have any major issues. This car has quite obviously been well looked after for most of it's life and has had money spent on it. With no reserve it might be a superb low cost buy, but with two interested bidders I could see it reach £5K /£6K or quite a way beyond - with buyers premium at those values would add approx. another £1K. If I wanted one, I personally would not think I had paid over the odds at a figure approaching £7K.

John Dangerfield badge on the back, rare left hand mirror (manual rather than electric though) and it still has the rear headrests. Bumpers look very good but check the GTC/6b front spoiler for kerb damage. Hood windows seem to be very clear given the fact that the rest of it looks a bit worn? The bootlid looks to have been painted as the transfer is missing? Red paint and brown interior wouldn’t be my choice either but I’ve had lots of cars that were in colours I might not choose normally :-)

Very tidy. Alloy rocker covers and even painted the bonnet hinges :-)

No bidders in the room, internet bidders only. Hammer price was £4100, so with buyers premium probably not far away from £5k.

Not a bargain, but a fair enough price when not road tested.
