Sabre 1800 Fusebox

Post by Loxford » Wed Jan 10, 2018 1:26 pm

Hi,
Having multiply problems with the fuse box. A soldering job from hell but I'm considering replacing it.

Anyone got one that's in good shape?

Thx

G

Same fusebox for all small sports (different orientation and cover for SST/Sabre) - I have several second hand but won’t be able to get to them for a couple of weeks?

Thx Jim,
Give me a shout when you have one. I'm not in a hurry, the weather is not good for fiddly outdoor jobs at the moment. I also need to prepare my spine for the hours inverted over the engine bay!

Pics - do you need the relay base too? How much wire do you want?

You will need to make some modification as none of mine are Ti which uses row 7 for the fuel pump fuse.

Thanks Jim and Mike,
Naturally, I must ask Mike if that is a turbo version?
I do have the fuel pump and engine management fuses on mine.

You will be very lucky to find a turbo fuse box - I have one but it’s attached to my spare engine :-)

Hi Jim,
I'm thinking about it.
I'd need to include a separate block for the engine management and fuel pump.

I wasn't thinking of joining up wires, I thought I'd solder directly onto the replacement fuse box. I haven't got sight of what it looks like from the back to know if that is straightforward or not.
I imagine it's quite a fiddle given the positioning of the whole affair. Not a job I'd want to do twice, I need a replacement in good shape.

Regards

G

What's up with the current fuse box?

On a Sabre I worked on that had been sweating under a tarpaulin for years, the electrical system was very unhappy. Half an hour with some Poundland nail files and a can of electrical contact cleaner had the fusebox all sorted. Then it was just crumbling light fittings to be replaced all round the car.

A couple of the fuse slots have overheated and melted the plastic enough to distort the fuse retainers.
Worst case, Aux lamp fuse holder no longer accepts a fuse at all.
The problems that have caused this need to be dealt with first or the same issues could reoccur with a replacement box.

Hi if you want a picture of the rear of a standard fuse box let me know.
I'm going to the storage area tomorrow and can take a couple of pics.
I don't know how to post on here but if you PM me with your email address i'll send them to you.

Mike
