SE5a Tan Luggage Area Tonneau?

Post by Cutwaterdrummer » Tue Jun 30, 2020 1:36 pm

Hi Guys

Ok, so trying to post in the correct section of the forum!

My SE5a is missing it's tan luggage area tonneau, so wondering if decent ones come up for sale at all, if someone has one they would sell, or if anyone sells new ones (guessing not...)?

Cheers
Cliff

Mine's missing too - used ones come up on ebay on occasion, for quite strong money. It's planks of wood (thin) sandwiched between vinyl, so DIY making something like that has potential if you feel adventurous ! Exciting curtain material for the tonneau could start a new trend in boot-covers

I can't help myself - I have to ask questions and find out why. Why ? Dunno

I don't think I'd ever feel that adventurous! Shame original drawings aren't available, as I'd likely pay someone with the skills to make one.....although is vinyl colour matching a thing???

End of the day, guess I need to keep an eye on ebay.

Ignore where some cardboard has stuck to it - comes off with a dash of cleaning. I hadn’t when I took these pictures.

I got rid of mine because they slide around and wear the side panels away. Best solution I saw was a "blind" that fitted behind the rear seats and pulled back towards the hatch. I just use a blanket in the MB

Thanks Peter, good tip on the wear - will have to think about something to mitigate that!

Been wondering about a roller blind solution as well. There are enough companies that make them to bespoke size. Should be possible to fit - or?

I like the Reliant fold-away boot-cover design, but I wonder if it can be improved upon. I worry that a roller-blind - although possibly an elegant solution - is not great for lumpy but part-full boots where the blind needs to be fully retracted to avoid damaging it, and how durable it will be when attached/detached-&-stored.

The original fold-away design could be partly folded back if needed, with the rest of the boot still covered. As the original design wears the side panels away (Peter Freeman, above), perhaps that sliding/wearing problem - when sorted - would produce a great solution?

It would be interesting too to have a solution that can cover the boot area even when the rear seat are folded flat - ie a complete cover from hatch up to the front seats if needed

One of the MB's has raised the cover which gives him more "boot" space and does not affect the rear view - you cannot see stuff that low down anyway - a good idea worth considering doing. "Middlebridge" hides the stuff in the boot

It should not slide anywhere if its fixed by its poppers ?.If you don't have the fixings then it was never supplied with a cover when new
