It was standard on the early 5 (with no electric fan) and a factory option (for towing, with the electric fan) on the Later 5 and 5a. Can be used to mask overheating problems but generally pointless with a modern electric fan fitted IMO.

Can't advise on the fan its one i adapted to fit but you still need the boss...Its not on mine due to overheating it never has, but it no longer has any fueling issues in traffic all the hot air gets drawn down and blown under the car.

I have the boss it came with my engine (was a static generator plant) it sounds like it's worth doing though

hasn't the pulley already got 4 bolts? seem to remember mine used these to locate a plastic fan...... it was marked a ford item. it kept the temperature constantly stable.it also had a kenlowe thermosatic.but never heard it come on. the kenlowes allow temps to creep up to around 3/4 then back to normal. i prefer stable.

the Kenlowe was setup incorrectly then.

The holes are for bolting the boss on which put the fan blades the other side of the steering rack..i don't need to do that on mine ...the boss must be quite hard to get now so i would grab one while you can

When I’m stopped or going slowly my fan cuts in at about an indicated 95 (maybe two needle widths above 90) and pulls it back to 90. Sits at 90-92 (one needles width above) normally when moving.
