BMW325i anyone ? Provisionally sold.

Post by peter freeman » Wed Mar 27, 2019 3:19 pm

Gerry C sold his GTE just before he died laving his wife with his H reg BMW 325i Sport - top of the range with a full factory fitted body kit and additions. Now this car has to be sold as his wife does not drive manual gearbox cars. Alan and I went around to see it today but could not get it to start - no fuel and no spark - there is a key in the car which we assume to be for the immobiliser but we could not find where the key fits into. This is one of the best cars of this type out there and much sort after by the BMW crowd. We will put it on car and classic once we have found out how and where the key hole is situated ( we intend finding out who fitted the system next week ) but in the meantime I thought that someone in our club may know someone who would be interested in the car - keep it in house so to speak. More photos are available.

Paul Maddison is a BMW fanatic. Maybe he can be of assistance?

OK - that key fits the rear of a siren - and ought to be located under the bonnet and is generally oblong and its likely manufacturer is Scorpion or Laserline if dealer fitted
However in the engine bay picture above - there is a black object in bottom left - to the left of the suspension turret.
Can you photograph that in detail ?
I think thats a siren , but a later type - usually fitted to E36 , and sourced directly by BMW

There are no key holes in the siren - I thought the same myself when I first saw it - Scorpion SA30 alarm we think - the original alarm system was replaced last year as it was draining the battery too quickly but as yet we don't know who it was fitted it but we have an idea where they are situated so plan to find who they are next week

Then that might just be an old key
On the siren are there any blanks or rubber plugs that could be masking a hole
Sorry I couldn't be any help

Could be old but why would he leave it in the car and we still have to find out how the ignition and fuel pump are cut off. We knew everything he did on his GTE but as the BMW was always BMW serviced we know little about it.

Peter,

Have you tried all the switches, a common trick about that time was to put in an OE switch for a piece of equipment the car didn't have (like heated seats) and wire a cut off into that.

As the car had not been had not been out since Nov and the battery was flat by the time we had recharged the battery and turned the engine over for a while to get the oil everywhere in the engine the day was all but gone. I do have a wiring drawing from a friend and If I get time tomorrow I will see if there is some common point in the supply to the fuel pump and ignition. I still have the Coupe starter motor to try to understand.

Assuming it eventually runs OK and gets an MOT,it doesn't appear a lot different from examples on C and C priced around £20K...

The ECU is located above the pedals and the fuel pump relay on the LH wing covered by a box that slides up
