SS1 1800 ti –

Very good useable car, only reason for sale is lack of use – I’m mainly doing motorway miles now and although it’s great on A and B roads it’s not so fun on the motorway. Quick run down of spec is included below:
Engine:
Turbo Technics refurbished roller bearing T25 Turbo
Uprated wastegate spring to allow more boost
Custom made elbow in stainless by JP Exhausts
Autosprint camshaft
Sealed pop off valve
Starter motor replaced 1 month ago
Engine was apart 1 year ago, all shells, rings, bores and crank good. Head was decoked, pressure tested and skimmed.
All cooling hoses and clips replaced 1 year ago
New stainless steel exhaust system from GW
New engine mounts
New (and relocated) fuel pump

Transmission:
Mk2 gearbox for improved gearshift
Uprated S13 Clutch to handle more power
New gearbox mount
Filled with racing shock proof gearbox oil
Diff replaced a week ago

Suspension and brakes:
GW vented brakes up front, new a year ago
Rear shoes and fitting kit replaced a week ago
New flexis all round and new solid brake pipes at the rear
Strengthened front upper wishbones
Ball joints, steering gaiters, front ARB droplinks and track rod ends replaced a year ago
Spax adjustable shocks front and rear
Strengthened trailing arms
BMW rose joint rear ARB droplinks

General:
Full grey leather seats
Grey powder coated club roll bar
Door hinge pins replaced
Boot hinges replaced
New old stock instrument binnacle from RPW
New Continental tyres 1 year ago
New old stock gear knob fitted
Electric windows (NS regulator replaced 1 year ago)
New headlamp switch
Uprated headlamp bulbs
Fuel lines all replaced recently
New speedo cable
Good condition quarter light frames
Mohair hood and white hardtop

This car is also fully prepared for sprinting with all the required tow points, safety stickers, legal tyres and identified battery terminal. It was sprinted twice last year and proved extremely competitive (see Harewood and Anglesey 2017 threads)

Looking for what I paid for the car £4300 – it’s a well known club car with lots of history.
MOT has just lapsed so it will be supplied with a fresh ticket

I wonder if any of you clever souls can offer some advice or suggestions? I was going to go up and visit Mark to have a look at his car and bring it back to Plymouth but the brakes don't work, suspected master cylinder... Mark has tried to get his local garage to fix them but to no avail. I was wondering if 1. Any braking genius lives locally to Mark and I could pay them to fix the offending part(s), allowing me to drive it home, or, 2. does anyone know of a transportation firm that could deliver it here so that I could fix them or have my local garage take a look?

Any assistance is much appreciated, I have been trying to buy an 1800ti since I stupidly sold mine (it was my first car) about 22 years ago... It would be lovely to have another one!

My former car and more recently Son Josh's car. I had it transported from the south coast so it might be going home (see relevant thread in my signature below)

Master cylinder should be a relatively easy fix; most likely the seals I would think.

Get the owner to ask on here for anyone with the spares required or get them to have the MC rebuilt by a specialist.

Unfortunately, a rebuilt one and a NOS one have both failed to cure it. At least, the garage hasn't managed to bleed the brakes effectively...

Thank you for the reply Steve, it seems odd. Do you happen to know if the MC is Sherpa?

I have had issues with bleeding SS1 brakes before; have they used a pressurised brake bleeding system :?: Sounds like its not the MC then. I think a failed servo seal can cause fluid leak internally which is not visible :?: After that there is not much else that could be wrong really :?

As far as I know its still the original MC; don't think I or Josh changed it. Not sure if a Sherpa MC is a direct fit or not sorry.

Thanks for the replies! Mark refurbished the original MC and also tried a NOS one, just in case he had fitted the new seals incorrectly. The original was leaking from, I think he said, the rear of the cylinder. The garage tried to bleed them, using the method described by Phil (I bet they didn't use the requisite broom though!) With a pressurised bleeding system...

Apparently, the master cylinder is MGRV8, amongst other things?!
