1972 SE5a Manual OD

Post by Crowther » Sat Aug 04, 2018 7:06 pm

The time has come to sell my 1972 SE5a.
A sad day for me but hopefully a better day for my Scim!

The reason I'm selling is two-fold:
My Scim is good but not great. I like to think he has improved under my ownership but I lack the time, facilities and, to be honest, skill to get him to a standard that I would be happy with.
Secondly he just isn't comfortable to drive for me in terms of driving position. Perhaps I have been spoiled by modern cars but as a 6'1" strapping (fat) lad I find it a tight squeeze.

I would really like him to go to a club member. He has the potential to be an excellent example of the marque.

The good:
It's a manual SE5a with overdrive and a sweet-sounding Essex V6!
Tax and MOT exempt.
Starts well and runs well. Driven regularly during my tenure but not when the roads have been salted.
Chassis is solid including outriggers - recently waxoyled.
Alloy timing gear fitted by a professional.
New 38DGAS fitted - auto-choke works and the car starts like a modern.
Cooling system updated with stainless cooling pipes and silicone hoses.
No overheating problems.
Magnecor HT leads.
Aldon Ignitor electronic ignition plus Lucas gold coil. Eureka wire has been bypassed (easily reversible).
Various rubber seals replaced including tailgate and front door frame seals.
New clutch and slave cylinder fitted professionally.
Revolution alloy wheels.

The bad:
Fuel tank (stainless) leaks when full.
Fuel sender is duff.
Paintwork isn't great, especially on the bonnet and the offside rear quarter.
Some water ingress in the front which hasn't done the carpets any favours.
Door cards are a bit tatty.
Gear stick rattles.

I'm looking for £3,500 or sensible offers and I'm based near York.
