Rat Rod (dizzy drama)

Post by Gillsfan » Wed May 16, 2018 1:38 pm

The rotor arm is turning. I've checked the wiring and I can't see anything wrong, I turned the engine over by hand and lined up the timing mark. A small adjustment to line up number one. I'm confused what could be wrong, I am right that the spark plug earthed via a jump lead should spark? It's currently a new plug from my spares connected to a ht lead, clamped in a jump lead and placed in front of the windscreen so I cam see it.

Other info in case it helps. I'm getting oil pressure when it turns over. I've put the old cap back on and checked I've got the leads in the right order. I've also swapped the rotor arm. Still no spark

Where is your 12v supply from - is it still live when the engine’s cranking?

I've tried from 2 places both live when cranking. It's currently connected to the ballast resistor as per the auto spark instructions (12V side). Just double checked and it drops nearer 10 when cranking.

As long as the other end of the jump lead is connected to a good earth, then you should see a spark.

Think it might be picture time - where your wires are, and what the ignition says it's supposed to be connected to..

Now even if the timing is mile out, which I'm pretty sure it isn't. There should still be a spark.

Is the black ring that fits on the dizzy hexagon pushed down enough (or too much)? If it doesn't line up correctly with the sensor block (with the wires) then it won't trigger. Wiring looks OK - assuming the white (?) wire coming off the coil is off the bypass terminal on the starter motor, of course.

Did you notice the white adhesive insulation under the baseplate? Can't see that under yours unles it's a different colour. It is essential
