No issue with running the bluebird engine, its the same engine barring the dizzy position and the crackle finish rocker cover ( a few factory Tis had the black rocker cover).
Dizzy extraction and accurate 're fitting is a PITA though.

The Walkers Sabre racer used the bluebird head btw

Bluebird head is great for top mounting a massive turbo though!

Great minds think alike Ben. I refer to my earlier comments yet again -

Still. That bluebird turbo engine is begging for a big top mount turbo.

Would make a fantastic track car....

I think that's probably why the Walker Sabre used one..but it wasn't exactly standard!

As to why twin spark engines seem to be around - back in the 90's, there were a glut of "low mileage" Japanese engines flooding the market (Heathrow Engines being one name I recall) - you got a CA18ET engine, but no clue what it came from hence some from the S12, some from the Bluebird, and possibly some other JDM only creations. I've seen twinspark ones with plugs fitted (and no leads) or brass blanks (the yellow ex-Reliant factory hack Sabre had these) but I think the base casting was the same so has the space for the plugs, but maybe not machined (I don't recall if the combustion chamber differed though).

Chambers the same visually, I think the twin spark was listed as a lower comp ratio but give the head chamber is the same and the pistons are the same it's either a misprint or the blanking plugs/second set of spark plugs reduced the CR a Gnats gooley...

There might be a couple of cc's liberated by the gap between the electrode and body, I suppose?

Single spark have the bosses for the second set of plugs (does it have a boss for the “rear” mounted dizzy?) - I’m surprised they made more than one casting and this one doesn’t have the dizzy side mount (even an undrilled boss)

Haven't got one to hand, but yes the bosses for the 4 secondary plugs are there on the 4 plug heads, so a spark plug would add to head volume a whisker

're the rear mount dizzy, there's a blanking plate at the rear of the head iirc, but not sure the std cam has a dizzy drive?

I don’t think the blank is dizzy hole shaped though is it?

For a simple access hole to the cam retaining bolt, it’s a bit over thought if you ask me  Maybe it’s designed to take a mount for a dizzy perhaps?

If you get chance Mark, I’d like to see some more photos of the engine and maybe the cam. It’d be interesting to see if the RWD dizzy mount exists and if the cam has an unused drive gear on it.

Ok Steve

Will be on Sat tho.

There is no evidence of a dizzy mounting casting on the side of the head.

Will get the cover off and see if the cam has other gears cut into it at the front.
RE a bigger turbo, one of the lads was suggesting that on Sunday, but I don`t think it will happen if its gonna cost money for a new casting and all the plumbing alterations involved.

Rather large turbo methinks.

That was relatively small by what they tried, a T34 (essentially escort cosworth sort of turbo) rather than the rs500 T4 'Dinner Plates' that kept blowing up engines
