No progress to date.
But he has discovered a Twin Spark head is fitted, even tho the extra plugs are not connected.

Fitted New pump, nothing.
Messed with electrics, nothing.
Checked out feed to ecu, power there but no LED`s.

Gonna swap out my ECU an see what happens, fingers crossed.

I assume it’s got a single spark dizzy and cam?

If not, you may have issues.... :w

Hi Steve

Due to illness issues I still haven't seen the car, but it IS A DOG according to Mick, the GF bro in law.

Would you know if its twin spark will it need a specific ECU, or will the Std 1 work?

YOU wouldn`t happen to have a spare ECU?, and are you doing Harewood this weekend?.

Hi Mark, not doing Harewood unfortunately.

The car may just have the TS head and be running on SS cam and dizzy, but well worth checking out. I discovered the timing differences between the two types of cam earlier in the year. I dare say the dizzy has differences as well.

I see Phil has popped up with some of the parts you may need !

Cheers Phil

Can you confirm if a different ECU is needed for TS ?.

Looks like your getting a bespoke steering rack and possibly a special LSD at a very good price!!!!

Ecus are numerically different TS to SS, but are interchangeable in use.

It Lives, in the words of Mr Frankenstein.

Failed connection to ECU, remade and it runs.

Can`t find engine number on block of twin spark head to confirm original block and swapped out head but dizzy is very close to bulkhead.

Tank out for refurb, new fuel lines obviously, front seats rotten so replaced.

Not as much work needed as first assumed.

Will post youtube vid of it running when I work out how.

Anyone from Reading remember this car???????

Can the dizzy simply be relocated to the side or does the twin spark head not have both drillings?

I can’t tell from the photos, but is the dizzy on the end of the cam pointing towards the rear of the car? If so isn’t that some sort FWD arrangement?

The twin sparks that I’ve seen have the dizzy in the same place as the SS. In fact the twin spark cam I had wouldn’t have allowed for the dizzy to be in any other location.

It ain't a twin spark engine unless it has 8 spark plugs in it!

I suspect the notion of it having a twin spark head is misleading as to my understanding many of the later castings were drilled and tapped for 8 spark plugs, but then had the EXH side drillings plugged. I seem to recall mention that these plugs were even (or could be) used for fine adjustment of compression on each cylinder.

To my eye, the logical suggestion would be that it simply has a (FWD) Nissan Bluebird Turbo engine dropped in whole. I refer to my earlier observations.
Under the bonnet. Black rocker cover, not original, but many reasons it could have one. Hang on where's the dizzy, is it missing? But the add says it fires up with gas. OH, there it is under the bulkhead. SO, that means it either has a Bluebird turbo head, or engine in it's entirety. There is also some unusual fuel or EGR system to the LHS of the intake manifold, and the sump is not a stock 1800ti fitment one - again pointing to full engine change.

Phil we think it probably HAS had a complete engine from a FWD ? Bluebird?.
The extra holes HAVE plugs screwed in and the dizzy IS pointing at the bulkhead, but only has 4 leads,so it IS a twin spark head with Four plug cap.

Jim there are no other "holes" in the casting to allow moving the dizzy, we assume its fed from the end of the cam, not on a 90angle as RWD.

Steve your bottom pic is the same engine.

On another note, it has a SS turbo shield, a very nice SS exhaust system, OZ rims and a nice looking alloy rocker cover.
The chassis is very clean.
It has all the electric switches, but most don`t work, as don't the headlights, we wound them up by hand and they work, but need new lenses.

On lifting the seats out for repair we found tickets from Reading, the RSSOC international meeting sticker in the window, and an RSSOC members sticker.

A bit more research is needed methinks to find out why its got a replacement engine.
