Coupe/ SAAB/ SE5 thing...

I know its been a long while but some of you might remember this build thread, in the mean time we have started competing and have made the obvious decision to retain the SS1 as the competition car given that its superior in every way 😁 and change the direction of the coupe to a fast resto mod. That being the case we have taken the decision to replace the current engine and gearbox package with a turbo V6 in keeping with the character of the original car albeit making quite alot more power than the 2.5 it arrived with. Watch this space! If anyone is interested in the SAAB gearbox and engine package send me a PM, this setup should be good for a reliable 480bhp. If anyone has a mechanically sound but tatty 350z going cheap please let me know.

Its a chunk heavier than the forged DET that is now in the TI and with a DET head (we have one sat on the shelf) its actually capable of more than the B204 in standard form so it wouldnt make sense really.

its also longer than the DET by a reasonable amount which in an SS1 causes issues with the damper mount.

Traction obviously being a concern we have purchased these much wider split rims

Hi guys, can you pm me regarding your split rims, where did you get them. Etc.

Ps, loving this thread. I’d read it ages ago but it’s great when you actually sit and reread from the top. Cheers

Cheers Mikey, technically at the moment the coupe project is going backwards because I am selling off the engine package and anything related to it but its quickly freeing up valuable space and money that will allow us to crack on with this build when we are ready at a reasonable pace, the money recouped from the saab bits is enough to buy a fully running MOT'd 350z donnor. We need to take a break after the SS1 is finished late Feb early March because I need to help dad do a bunch of renovation work on his house so I will be over there grafting whenever I can until its done. I am hopeful that we will make progress on this build before Scimfest but its not going to be there or running I dont think.
