many I think a quick ring round the usual suspects would be quicker as I have still got the problems I had last year.

But what I would ask is are they Rubber and cloth wound, OR Kevlar reinforced?.

As soon as I get my personal life sorted I will be looking to get quite a lot of parts remanufactured back to OE spec at least.

I will be looking at sorting the rack you asked about, and dropping off the HT.
Mark
will do Mark, I still need to check the steering rack - will be in touch soon.

Good day all

I contacted "Classicsiliconhoses" and got a quote of around £280 with all the clips and P&P - GW have rubber only-- so i will wait on QRG and see what options they have.
I guess silicon is the way forward?

Manny

edit:make that £320- did not read the entire quote !

It sounds a lot of money, but they are fit and forget. Buy cheap, buy twice. The quality is far better than anything I've ever picked from eBay, and that includes the Samco stuff.

Last time I researched replacing the hoses on a 2.8 with eBay silicone stuff, I got it to over £200 without much effort. And of course the fit would be a compromise and there'd be more joints and more opportunities for leaks.

Unless you enjoy replacing hoses regularly, or standing by the side of the road watching coolant trickling away down the gutter, then I'd say silicone is definitely the way to go. Combine them with good quality stainless clips too, and as Steve says, it should be fit and forget. :)

Then you might as well just throw money in the gutter too.

At the price, I would think the cost of watching Evans Waterless Coolant running down the gutter would be heartbreaking!

Seriously, I doubt that Evans would make a huge difference to the longevity of standard rubber hoses, as they will still be going through the same heat cycles, and still be in the same oil-fume-rich environment, so would probably still go cracked and crusty as quickly? They may have less pressure to deal with, but that's not the only reason hoses fracture - there's the vibration and relative movement of the engine on it's mounts.

Before you commit to buy, I would get them to send you a picture of the complete set they sell and compare them careful with what you have, some did not look right on the picture i was sent. Was £320 for black with full roll edge stainless clips?

Not too difficult to make a set up for it out of bits. It works out much cheaper too. The lower hose is the difficult one, I think I made that from a 45 degree and either a ninety degree or another 45, I can't really remember. I will have to work it out as I have a Middlebridge that needs doing now.

Bought a set from Classic Hoses in Jan
There was a slight delay as they were dealing with family illness so this may be ongoing
Dealt with them over the phone rather than email as always feel it is more personal

As Steve says “fit and forget.”
I don’t even think about 404 and it’s silicone hoses or the fact it’s filled with Evans waterless. Not even put a spoonful in so I guess it’s now been in there for 4 to 5 years. My only reminder is the pressure cap with the Evans logo “do not add water.”
But it’s a Scimitar - so not resolved Kenlowe fan always on and now the temperature gauge not registering.
That’s Scimitar life - but not exactly how I envisioned it.
