I bought this car last September but didn't have room in the workshop because I was doing an engine change on DJs TD4 Freelander, then I gave the space to Rev Light to change his 5a timing gear and fettle for MOT over winter.

Luckily Phil Howard had a space on his driveway :D

So last weekend I dragged it home and today I took the seats out to dry everything out and properly assess it

The observant will notice the lack of a cambelt - apparently it failed several years ago leading to the long layup. A quick check showed that the water pump had siezed, stripping some of the cambelt teeth.

The more observant may notice the drain plug in the head - this engine was apparently a replacement but under one of the seats was a form from Ford Power Products!

So, the plan is to get it back on the road and sell on. Hopefully a replacement head will get it up and running, then some seats, a hood and a set of decent wheels and tyres. I don't plan on doing too much with the paint at this stage, concentrating more on mechanicals first. Bushes, brakes, suspension and steering, then dash out to go through the electrics properly.

This won't be a quick turnaround, I have too many other projects on the go, so expect to see this advertised in 12 months or so.

You may have spotted the tide mark on the carpets - and also the 3mm hole in the drivers footwell?..

Carpets will come out and get vaxed - they don't look too bad apart from the tide marks :-)

And water pump/tensioner :-)

So I have knackered my back this weekend so I'm just cleaning bits up today.

Found the engine number stamp and they've used the chassis number on the replacement engine (16 818) :-)

Edit - just checked and the database has it as 819 (they were actually nearly in sync with chassis numbers at that point) - I wonder what's on the V5C?

Confirmed the chassis number - took me a while to realise that despite being galvanised, it doesn't have Ti engine mounts, so the chassis number is on the near side :-)

I really feel those landy mounts need spacing. You can slice / burn the rubber off one old mount and knock the coach bolts out, leaves a good thick disc of steel the prefect size to space the mount out.

Or space the steel mounts away from the engine block.
