I managed to fill the holes in one with a MIG. I'm certainly NOT an expert welder

This is after filling the first couple of cracks.

This is how it looked before I had it flatted off.

Most towns have a welding consumables supplier who will recommend a local customer that buys stuff for welding cast materials, that would be my suggestion. I took it to a specialist weld firm.

As for Corky and his MIG, im sure i could MIG it too, but the issues are the differing expansion rates of materials for a long term repair. I thought you were only good at breaking stuff Corky, didnt realise youd progressed to repairs too!

Haha... Cheeky sod, I repair and break things in equal measure  . It was a case of gently gently don't blow any bloody holes in it. I think RR did one too with a gas welder.

In the absence of any new ones, and 2nd hand ones are very thin on the ground, you have to have a go.

My mistake, it was a turbo housing that I remember Phil welding up with gas. See here viewtopic.php?f=20&t=1215&start=240

Tubular stainless or mild can be diy jobbie, flanges plasma cut and some thickwall tube plus a decent welderman and 250quid would do it. If you ask an exhaust manufactuer to make you one i reckon 700 is a ballpark. I made one from an off the shelf 16v manifold and cut and shut myself, cost just over 125 quid and some faffing

The remanufactured ones are casting using top quality materials so are repeatable and more durable---pays ya money takes ya choice i reckon.

Good day all,

well got the welded manifold back - relieved of £20....

Image
Image

inside needs a bit of smoothing\cleaning up but has done the job i think.

Banjo bolts and washers arrived this morning - but still need to order new studs...chap tells me the manifold was heated to cherry red and the weld pooled in the areas needed...I am guessing it still has the same shape...i will trail fit it at the weekend to get an idea of how difficult it will be

Good day all,

well I managed to smoothout\remove some of the repair splatter....so thought i would just test fit the turbo to the exhaust - battled for about 30 min - but could not get it house...then I took some pics:

okay....WT..flaming trousers
the housing does not look like its missing a tag...but the middle stud hits the edge of the housing ...so what is going on here.. why are there only four holes??

One of the bolt holes on the turbo isn't always used. IIRC I've done one of each type.

Don't chop it  . Remove it gently and put it in your spares box.
