Swoakes SS1 DET Sprint Car plan for 2019 on

Post by swoakes » Sat Nov 17, 2018 3:27 pm

As previously mentioned myself and Josh will not be entering SSSC or CM next year.

Why :?:

Well Josh has won the SSSC 4 times in a row now and whilst I have scored reasonable points so far I'm never going to win anything so we basically fancy a change.

As regards Classic Marques...

Its a great championship, well run and well attended and we've had a few laughs with the CM guys. BUT.....

Whilst Josh did well this year finishing 6th overall and generally scoring 24 points + at most events our view is that a Scim cannot win CM; the car won't go fast enough to win on handicap when compared to the more modern machinery entered. The other issue with CM is that there are NO prizes for being quickest either on the day or annually because ALL prizes are handicap based.

So onto the plan....

The car is being lightened as we speak. Door glass has been removed and will have perspex fitted, door internals cut away. Boot lightened, hinges removed and now fitted with bonnet pins. Power will be boosted either via a custom ECU map, bleed valve or a combination of the two to run at 275 bhp+ and we plan to run on slicks next year.

You will certainly still see us trackside next year as we intend to enter favourite events on the SSSC/CM calendar such as Loton, Ty Croes, Harewood and of course Curbs.

Hi Steve

Look forward to seeing your ss1 going faster (in Josh’s hands)😀 next year.

Perhaps some lobbying with CM regarding handicap/ ftd bonus etc from Scimitar gang could see you back for 2020?

Under CM rules, you could enter one of the MSA classes at an event and go for the scratch time pots. You don’t have to be in the CM class if you don’t want to be. Maybe you could have the best of both Worlds?

And as if to prove my point on one of the other threads...handicapping stifles scratch time development!

Great news that you wish to move the car and performance on though 8) 8)

To be fair to you both, I think the extra grunt and grip will give you more interest, I found winning on a spreadsheet dull as hell, going for outright times gives a greater rush as does driving an over powered car! Good luck to you both, I'm sure it'll 're invigorate your interest 8)

Oh, don't use perspex by the way needs to be polycarbonate (brand names Lexan and Macrolon) perspex is brittle and can break easily, polycarb is the stuff riot shields and bullet proof windows is made of and all motorsport windows.

Not sure if littlescim (Dave ) still has the bonnet mould I sold him, if so I could layup some more bonnets if a few require them.

If you are doing various events, you will need to be an invited club member or championship member remember.

Nope; don't want points issued by CM.
