SE5A Project - Swindon

Post by Rev Light » Sun Mar 17, 2019 6:15 pm

It's been a quiet winter on the Scimitar front, but a few jobs were completed today ready for the new season. Today was new track rod ends (MOT) and a new starter motor. All three jobs fought me, but we got there in the end. Thanks to Jim.

And new rear lights. They work, but this might not be permanent, as I would rather have the backing the same colour as the rest of the car. Let's call it, the first iteration.

Not much has happened with this Scimitar this winter. I have replaced the rear lights and sorted out the mess that was the wiring in the rear. Old tow hook wiring with lots of 'professional' blue chock blocks, etc. It's certainly simpler back there. This is the first iteration, as when I took the original lights out, it uncovered the original colour of the car. I will eventually remove the lamps and glass up and paint the backing.

Today's task was to change the track rod ends and starter motor. All of which fought me. Thank to Scimjim for giving me a hand. The starter was a massive improvement, but a bu##er to remove with the tubeless manifolds. But a bit of j j jiggling sorted it. Night and Day. Started on the button.

Looking forward to the new season.

Steve.

The letters are glued back on now. The removal of the old lamps were quite traumatic, so there was the odd bit of collateral damage....

Just a two part epoxy. Araldite.

Still toying with idea of de-badging it, for the simple look. But filling the holes and painting it is holding me back currently.

Put new black vinyl on the B-Posts as well, used a Evostik contact adhesive for that, but did not remove the rear windows, just pushed the vinyl edges under the rubber seals. The old ones had gone all 'ripply' and were very brittle.

Got some work on the Nose to do this summer to repair some cracks, where it probably had a low speed bump before I bought it. Glad I had some practise glassing the bonnet last year.

I have decided to only fit the rear scimitar badges and the nose and side badge plus the side GTE .
No scimitar on the front and no gte and automatic on the rear

Near side sill bulging, time to investigate....lots of scaley rusty steel and dust. Hoover has just packed up, so still trying to get all the debris out of the sill. Ho hum.

If you’re going to refit a metal plate, you need to cut down the outside of the sill too - it’s an L section originally.

Mark,

I did not realise you were still making them. How much are they now? I was going to just glass it all back in.
