Re: Bigdogs SE5 competion project. Disc brake conversion??

Post by Only1cliff » Fri Nov 07, 2014 8:34 pm

Right then my winter job for the car is going to be The Wilwood Brake conversion. So im in need of a little advice please
Currently its running standard brakes with servo located in the passenger foot well.

Rally Design do a kit which comes without pads and hoses http://www.rallydesign.co.uk/product_in ... ts_id=3976

And QRG do a complete kit at around £625
I was favouring Rally design just because they were very helpful over the phone and it might work out cheaper to source pads and hoses separately.
Where im stuck is with removing the servo, I imagine I will need a different master cylinder set up?

If it makes a difference the rears are drums and maybe at a later date I will change to discs

Can any more knowledgeable people point me in the right direction please?

Once I've done the fronts I will move onto the rears. Not sure when but they will get done at some point this year. Just need to free up some time to get started

Only1cliffs SE5 competion project. Brakes at last!

Post by Only1cliff » Tue Jul 28, 2015 9:17 pm

Well it was time I did some work on the car.I've not really touched it since Shelsley Walsh last year and from what I can remember from the event the brakes were a bit sticky. Im pretty sure this was down to the master cylinder. I had planned to change the discs and Calipers anyway so would be changing the master cylinder at the same time. Plus as an extra bit of weight saving I could remove the servo at the same time.
So out came the servo, old calipers and discs removed. I was surprised how much the old calipers weighed or how little the superlights weighed in comparison.
Due to no longer using the servo (which was located in the passenger footwell) I had to make up a new brake line from the master cylinder & also made some that go between the flexi's and the calipers. Turns out I really enjoy making brake lines! :D
All I have to do now is bleed the system and hope my brake lines don't leak!!

Also while I had the bonnet off I started prepping the new one, although I wont be fitting it till later in the year, still got to prep it for paint and then get it painted.

So tomorrows job is to bleed the brakes and hope for no leaks!
